I am plannig on changing the ATF on my mothers 1997 mercury mountaineer in the trans and transfer case. Any tips? I plan on just dropping the pan, not trying to do a full flush. I am also hoping to change the lube in the pumpkins too. I was thinking 75w90 up front and 75w140 in the rear wally world brand. Thanks!

You can probably pull off the rubber plug on the bellhousing of the trans and bump the starter a few times until you can get to the converter drain. If you wanted to get more fluid out. Not too hard, just a matter of ATF cost.

The front diff will probably require you to use a suction gun. Getting the cover off is hard.

I just used Mercon V in my '95 Explorer's trans and t-case (Control Trac 4WD). The axles got 80W90 because I was cheap with it.

Ok sounds good. I may hold off on the front diff if it is that much of a PIA. Really I just want to get some 75w140 in the rear end.
