1996 RED SVT (another fun car looking at)

I won't buy a modified vehicle. Looks like something an 18 year old would beat the living snot of in a HS parking lot.

That car cut up could net the 4000 asking price. The stock IRS is worth 800-1000 if in good shape. I could bring in 3000 parting out the motor and heads,if the seats are decent they would net 400 or so.
Tranny 300 bucks, lights, plastic lowers front and back and misc parts will easily top the original 4000 investment.
They are a fun car to drive, that's for sure.

That car has a solid axle. The Cobras didn't get IRS until 99MY.

The Teksid block was cast in Italy and is one of the strongest of the 4.6L blocks made. There are guys making 1000+hp on them.
Fascinating. I had a friend who owned a '96 Cobra back when it was new. He had to replace the engine under warranty due to a factory defect; I wish I had more details but he told me that it was just a problem with that design. Now that I did some reading on the Teksid block it looks like that was just a freak occurrence.

The 32V SVT Cobras had a small placard that with the signatures of the people that hand built the engines. (who thought it was just AMG?)
