Salvage title is ok if the work was done competently. A good inspection would easily reveal any issues from the body shop.
In its day that was a very nice car. A bit of a tossup at this age though. As long as it wouldn't be a DD I'd be fine with it. But it will likely need time AND money.

Salvage title is for theft recovery.. yea trying to fine a car that I can fun but also wont need too much money to repairs and that those repairs don't cost alot.
That car looks a little rough, but it does have low miles on a great engine.
Cobras normally go for closer to $9K-$10K in excellent condition. Since this one is rough and has a salvage title, $4K seems about right.

Not that I have heard of. One of my friends drives a '97 Cobra daily with over 100K on it and has never had an engine problem.
The 32 valve 4.6 was also used in the Lincoln Mark VIII and was pretty good in that car as well.

The teskid block is the holy Grail to mustang engine builders. It is an incredibly strong block and easily supports 1000hp. They also came in lincolns. I'd jump on that car for 4 grand if it runs alright. If it needs works then it could rack up bills real fast.
That was the only body style mustang I didn't love. I really liked the new edge bodies that started in 99 the 96's looked funny from behind.

interesting that block on the SVT is that much better.. good to know..
The block is also about 95lbs lighter because it is aluminum vs the GT's iron. The iron blocks are plenty strong, they are just heavy.
If you like this car and want to get it for less than $4k, you should wait until the auction over and if nobody bid for it, contact seller to offer $3500-3600 for it.
Starting bid of $4000 is usually mean seller is happy with that price, since the total Ebay fees can be as much as $200 for $4k car, seller may accept $3500 without paying fee and since nobody bid anything.

Yea this second time been listed.. I have asked seller a few questions... the owner purchased the car a month ago and doesn't want it. So he personally didn't do anything to it and got it as a trade and trying to liquidate it. He didn't say this much but that is what I am figuring. Seller says he bought it but now wants a work truck. That didn't make much sense..

It's possible the owner doesn't know how to shift the manual transmission very well, he tried it and doesn't like it. I think if you really like this car then wait for couple days, if it didn't sell than offer to buy it directly from him(with cash).

didn't get one bid before and if look at the bad carfax like report.. shows two accidents.. but for a beater.. (a change the oil and take care of it but wont be in the garage during winter) I think it could work.. Wonder how sport seats are..

Just a heads up. I had a 97 Cobra and it was a fun car. The 96s had issues with overheating. Ford issued a TSB for it so see if you can find out if it was done.
That 4.6 is different than the Lincoln version so parts may be hard to come by as it was only used in the Cobra and only from 96-98. The 99-02s were slightly different.
Other than that the car is a great car to drive. I loved mine.

Unless $4k isn't a big deal to you to gamble on this, I'd want it inspected to make sure the bones are least in good shape. As someone else pointed out, it looks like the salvage title is because of a theft. Then it was in two accidents within a year. It is one thing when you can see the severity of the accident because it results in a salvage title. In this case, it already had a salvage title, so you have no idea how bad those accidents were.

I am selling it becuase i have decided a truck would be better off for the new job i got. I cant be driving a cobra to a construction site
The oil was changed by the last owner about a month and a half ago
The brake pads and rotors are good on the car

i am currently a new owner so i was not in the collision , but last owner told me it was light norhing serious i can also see that becuase i checked the car out extremely well before i purchased it . the salvage tittle was only issued becuase of recoverytheft , as it says on the car fax . the cars title does not say lien on it, i have it right in front of me .
