The Buick 455 is a high nickel, thinner walled casting than many others. Fully assembled, it weighs less than a small block chevy. Nice motor.

Man that`s an AWESOME car!!!!!!!! I always loved the Toronados of that era too. Check out these beauties:

Why wouldn't you like cars like these, I set out in 1985 to buy this dream car and it was $200 and $4000 later it looked like this. I unfortunately sold it in 1995 to get out from under a couple of credit cards. I kick myself every time I am reminded. Yes that is a California plate.

$200 to acquire this junker, really. The funny thing was I really didn't think much about oil back then other than keeping it clean and I was a Valvoline guy. The motor had a extensive rebuild, pistons, heads, valve train, rods, crank, 0.060 overbore on the 425=431, kennebell cam, Posten everything else NOS, fresh TH400. It was a flyer. Geared wrong but 2nd was very strong over 40mph. I completely stripped the paint & and put urethane paint on it. By no means a qualified restoration but it turned out really good on this very straight car.

I did get this car wo/motor/trans & needed to buy a "66 riv GS for a core & it came with 2-4bbl. It had massive TQ but was very hard to drive & finnaly found a GS with a Q-jet manifold and that was a nice piece.

You guy`s are killing me with these beauties!!!

I love the classics, my wife doesn't get it.
My first car was a '69 Riviera that I owned from '82-'84. It had a 430 that kicked out 345HP. Maybe it was because of the weight but it wasn't all that fast. At best only got 12MPG.

Shhhhh!
You know it would get better than that if you had enough disipline to stay off the pedal. Easier said than done.

What great cars! Bring back the big American iron and I will relive my youth.

My Mom always drove big Buick Electra's back in the 60's and 70's. My Dad drove Thunderbirds, but he did have a 1970 Olds Toronado that I liked. My first car was a 1966 GTO (Tri-Power, 4 speed) but when I had a hot date I drove my Mom's Buick (the back seat was huge!!)

Back on topic, if I had one of these cars today I'd run either a 15W-40 or 5W-40.

Not sure if there was EVER a Regal GS-I seem to remember a '73 Buick Apollo (like a Nova) GS, and of course the well-known Regal-based Grand Nationals of the '80s. Back on topic, we used to run Castrol GTX 20W50 in my brother's '70 GS 455 convertible (which he still has-in pieces in a trailer)-one weakness of the Buick V8s was the oil pump was part of the ALUMINUM front timing cover-they had an annoying tendency to get grooves in them & cause hot low oil pressure-and the covers were very expensive! His '70 had so much torque it actually tore the corner of the frame under the driver's seat-with a worn out 10 bolt posi!!! It was the KING of one-wheel burnouts!!
