Just got it a week or so ago, no owners manual. Does anywhere know where an online data base is that I could look up oil capacity and what weight to use? It has the stock 327 V8. Thanks for the help, and no Amsoil spam please.

Had one. I used 10W30 while residing in Cen. Wis.

Most of the old small block Chevy's were 5 qt. systems.

Congrats on the purchase and

to the board!

The 1969 327 called for 10W30 and the capacity was 5 quarts.

I don't work for Amsoil and never have, use what ever brand you want to, but as Tim said above, if you will go to the Amsoil website it has a place where you can fill in what type of car you have and it will tell you the recommended weight of oil, capacity, cooling capacity, transmission capacity and what type of fluid to use, gear oil capacity and what weight, filter numbers, both Amsoil and WIX, wiper blades, etc., etc. You don't have to use their oil to get this valuable information.

I wonder how a 5W-40 oil like Shell Rotella Synthetic would do in this engine?

I was actually thinking about possibly trying this. I have heard good things about the snythetic 5w-40 Rotella T

I have a 67 Camaro and use Castrol 5W50.
Not a favorite on this board but it seems to work fine.
Of course I change it every 3 years whether it needs it or not, LOL (34,000 original miles and counting)

Off topic in 1969 I turned 16 the night before my birthday I had a drean my parents gave me a 1969 Z/28 as a birthday present .The dream seemed so real When I woke up I ran to the garage to see my new car and guess what, there was no Z/28 .I still remember the dream with a smile.

Are you sure its a 327? Reason I ask is the Camaro Z27 SS option never used a 327 in 1969. Camaro SS Z27 option got at least a 300HP 350 as a base engine. You may want to check your engine deck pad numbers to what motor you have.

If I remember correctly the AC filter # is PF-35. I had a '69... Fun ride. If it were mine I would run a diesel/gas rated oil in it for the added protection that this classic deserves. Rotella T Synthetic 5w40 would be a good one. Good luck sir.

Rickey.

I dated a girl right after high school that drove a 69 Camaro, that her Father had restored very nicely. Those are some sweet memories.

She didn't like the Camaro, so she talked the old man into a slightly used BMW 5-something.

I am pretty sure you could get the 275hp 327, but I am not an absolute expert, but pretty knowledgeable on the subject.

Hope I'm wrong, but pretty sure GM engines back then didn't have hardened valve seats. No need as all fuel was leaded. Lead lubed valves, no problems. Now all fuel unleaded and all engines since 73-74? have hardened valve seat inserts to keep valves from wearing into castiron heads. Inserts can be retrofitted, but require head removal.

Yes you could get a 327 in a 210 hp two barrel version in early production 1969 Camaros as a base engine for a standard V8 Camaro engine.

Later production 69 Camaros base engine for standard V8 engine used a 307 two barrel instead of the 327 two barrel. The last year for the 275 HP 327 was 1968. However no 67 - 69 SS optioned Camaros ever used the 327. If you have the block deck pad code I have a fair amount of old original GM manuals and literature and Motor shop manuals for 67- 69 Chevys to crack most of the engine codes.

I would pick a good 10w 30 for your early Camaro unless you are using aftermarket valve train than you may want to look for a good 15w 40 HDEO.

Anyway enjoy your new ride.

All 1969 SS Camaros' received 350 cu.in. motors from the factory. Any quality 10W40 oil will be just fine and Rotella 15W40 is a option. As has been mentioned, unleaded fuel with original factory heads will cause the exhaust valves to recede into the head......not a good thing.
