I have a Snap On 1/4 inch drive set that goes back to the late 50s. Also I still have my 3/8 drive set I bought in the mid 60s from Western Auto. Still have all the sockets with several pieces I added later.

It doesn't ratchet easily; it takes force to turn.

I wish I could get some replacements for this set. My dad misplaced a few bits over the years.

Every GM assembly plant I have been in, and that is dozens, uses Snap-on tools, as do the one Ford and one Chrysler (Viper) assembly plant I have visited. Have any of you guys done a NASCAR garage tour? Walls of Snap-on Tools in every shop. Cubic money in them drawers.

hard to beat snap on, great tools, something the US can still make the way they used too.

To re-visit this:

I found out that the tightness was not because of the re-kit, it was because he (the Snap-on guy) put the bottom on upside down.

I pulled it apart tonight to see what he lubed it with, and discovered that it was my original bottom plate. He'd just put it on upside down.

Put a light skim of Petro-Canada Precision synthetic grease on the gears, and put the plate on correctly and she feels smooth and free like she is supposed to.

You mean the cover plate? It takes a major moron to put the cover plate on backwards. Get a different dealer.
