Interestingly enough, my aircraft's top speed is 170MPH (not bad for a 40 year old Cessna) and cruises at 160 all day long. I find flying more fun than motorcycling. And, anybody who says you don't get the sensation of speed while flying is lying to you. There are certainly times where the speed is evident. In and out of clouds for example.

I often have to double check my driving speed after a long day of flying. As I have a tendency to "want" to go way too fast. So, clearly, my brain is registering the speed while flying.

Having flown (among many others) a Cessna, an F-14 and ridden a high-performance street bike - the motorcycle is far closer to the fighter than to the Cessna for visceral feel...

I don't get the sensation of speed in a Cessna...sorry, perhaps I am inured after years of going really fast...but the bike will still bring that blood rush and sensation of real flying.

The difference of course, is that while the fighter pilot is carefully selected and trained, this clown is not...and his decision to go that fast on a public highway exposes others to an unreasonable risk...

My family saw the f-14 fly for the last time at oceana in 2006, Very cool!! loved seeing it and hearing it! I'm jealous you have flown it!!

The unfortunate thing is there will be others that will want to top his "record". And the more press they give it, the bigger the audience. Eventually, the goal will become to top 200 MPH. People will get hurt. And so it goes...

I doubt having a valid license would have changed any of the charges ... except not having a license if they charged him for that. I've been faster than that on a bike ... mega rush. That was on a track, just in case someone wants to "assume".

Bryan - I miss the big fighter more than I can ever express...still dream about it...and I was there in Oceana for its farewell...

My point on the bikes is that I understand the thrill that they offer...but I also know how truly stupid this particular rider happened to be...

And for CUjet - no way this clown will ever have the patience, aptitude, money, or time to get a pilot's license...thank the Lord for that!

November last year at 9PM, a motorcyclist rammed the back of my car, parked out the front of my house...
* Riding without a licence;
* BAC of .202 (legal is .05);
* Tried to remove the evidence (bike);
* Contacted towing company and begged them to remove same from scene;
* fled the scene (two blonds in a Dodge Nitro);
* his stepfather turned up to watch the crime scene;
* when found at the hospital, lied to the Police (had no idea where bike was, knew of no accident, didn't want to report his bike stolen, the injuries ? they were from falling off a BMX).

For all of that, he got a $300 fine, and no licence for 3 years...the no licence must really hurt, as he was riding without one anyway.

Nearly lost all his clutch fingers, but the taxpayer sewed a few of them back on.
