15400-PLM-A02 Bought on eBay "Counterfeit"

Fake? How?? You mean they have Chinese people buy stuff and leave + reviews?

Interesting. I know they don't allow instant bad reviews, there is a time limitation of a few days, but there are negative reviews.
There are entire groups online that will leave fake reviews on anything. I presume the process is something along the line of they actually do buy it and pay, and leave a positive review - but the seller never ships and refunds money plus profit. Actual details I am not familiar with. See below.

I left a review for some aftermarket headlights. My description was "they fit, but the beam is awful". Yes shame on me for not researching that I should not buy non DOT approved headlights, so I didn't complain, but I didn't want others to make the same mistake. But it never showed up.

There was another on Amazon that was similar and never made it to publication. I had no communication from either ebay or amazon on why. Their loss, I buy almost zero on ebay, and very little anymore on Amazon. Walmart has really stepped up their online game.

"Fakespot.com estimates that more than one third of online reviews on websites like Amazon, Walmart and eBay are fake. Of course there is no way to know for certain, but we have some tips on how to spot a potentially fake review."

I use the Review Checker Beta and Fakespot on Amazon, they seem to agree most of the time, but I dunno...........

But I'm not sure how good Fakespot is on ebay

Looks ok, other than misspelling,
Wait - What?

It doesn't look OK at all, anyone who's looked at a real one would know fake instantly.

Holes in tube too small
Holes in tapping plate + Tapping plate stamping wrong.
Bypass valve all wrong.
"P" Gasket not right - though the shirk wrap hides it somewhat.

Cut it open it goes down hill from there....

Your comparing it to the OE Honda filter...I'm not. The filter could easily be worse but I'm not going to tell OP to run it. I'm not making any excuses for this filter being black market either.

OK,

Well I guess we will have to agree to disagree because even not comparing it to OEM I still don't think it looks OK.

Also, I think the second you've figured out that it is attempting to look like something it is not on the outside, you can have ZERO confidence the inside isn't garbage. - In fact you can pretty much expect it to be garbage.

Looks ok, other than misspelling, but that's not the point. Made in USA tagged to get around certain rules even though probably made overseas.
More like tagged Made in the USA because the counterfiter wanted to emulated the real Honda filter that’s made in the USA.

Hey, give them some credit, at least they threw on a silicon ADBV. 😆
I kid, I kid.
When comparing it to OE this thing is a pile of crap that needs to be escorted to the dumpster...after posting on BITOG first to put out an SOS/Recall reminder for this particular model. 😄

Any & all reasons to circumvent the real deal. These products have no business being sold as such. Fresh reminder that counterfeit is real & does exist unfortunately.

^^^ Yeah, that's the mail goal of counterfeiting, lol. There's only one reason it says "Made in the USA". and it's not to "get around certain rules". Exactly what "rules" are you talking about?

What leads me to believe this is counterfeit is misspelled words and internal design different from previous cut and posts. Was expecting NOS. Paid around $45 shipped for 10 of these. Will be returning the rest to ebay seller.

Man this is crazy. It’s getting hard to know what is real these days.

We got a counterfeit fridge water filter from WM which leaked water on the floor. Good thing I caught it early. But still creeps me out that we probably drank some water from it.

I remember a segment on Canadian TV back in the 80s. They had several counterfeited auto parts. Showed one oil filter & the element was basically a roll of TP in a can...

It appears from the ash and remnants, adbv not silicone. I was going to say for a counterfeit, not terrible. But faking a silicone adbv with color, a bridge too far. :(

Seeing the price including shipping, I guess I'd say follows 'if seems too good to be true, likely is'. I hope seller is paying return shipping.

This filter continues to disappoint. There is no bottom for these fakes. I take back every compliment I said. Faking red silicon a bit too much. 😄 :(

Purolator has done it before, with red rubber nitrile ADBVs (Bosch Distance Plus).
I have used and c&p several BD+3323 and never saw any claim or proof that its red adbv was anything other than silicone. If you have a citing or link be interested to read it. They did use a red sealing gasket, that likely was nitrile and same as P1, PTFE coated. Linked is likely the last BD+ I used. I'm confident adbv silicone, likely same as used on equivalent P1/PL 14610 series.
