Found SN/GF-5 PYB up here today, can't imagine it isn't available down there yet?

I do like the OLM and would and have followed it with conventional in the G6. What I have found in UOAs on the EcoTec, I'm not as comfortable. The G6 has never gone this far either, 10k km, not miles.

I forgot to mention that I had run the oil 11% past 0% on the OLM (reset it). 0% was 10350 miles. I figure the OLM was calibrated originally using the GM reference oil which was Mobil DriveClean/Mobil bulk/Exxon SuperFlo. Those oils have a starting TBN around 7.8. I figured GF-5 PYB @ 8.4 was worth at least 10% more. Besides the previously used GF-4 Chevron started at 7.8 and still was at 2.4 (9417 miles/0% OLM).

Makes you wonder how long GF-5 Mobil5000 with a 9.0 TBN would last!

Amazing....

I suppose I can assume three of my rigs can go 6k miles and 6 month OCI's with PYB.....?????

2007 Toyota 4Runner
2007 Toyota Yaris
2009 Hyundai Accent

All spec or Service Bulletin 5w20....as "A" ok.

Yellow Bottle appears to be amazing!!!!

and slightly OT, I actually have seen slighter better mpgs using PYB compared to PP. I don't have anything to back this up other than I think GroupII+ oils are better for everyday use.

I really believe conventional SOPUS & Chevron/Havoline oils are spectacular and understimated.

Wow! This is an excellent report. Is this a 3.5L V6 without a EGR? I'm just curious if the lack of an EGR helps the oil's condition.

I have not yet seen TDS for any oils reformulated for GF-5/SN. The PYB spec sheet looks like they just replace SM with SN and GF-4 with GF-5. Everything else is the same.

Pennzoil hasn't released their GF-5 specs, at least for conventional oil. The viscosity, flash point and TBN may not change but I can assure you Pennzoil will continue to tweak the additive package as necessary. They have a very aggressive R&D department. They're the #1 selling conventional oil for a reason.

Gary

I'd say it is. Obvious that Pennzoil HAS changed their mix for API SN and with their up to 40% cleaning, nothing else protects better and so on.

I think a LOT of oils are going to be changing so everything we have seen for data will be different. Here is one.

With this reporty and if the moly is for real, why use a syn? That is a lot of miles for a conventional oil. $12 for 5 quarts at my local Walmart....

It's true.. For the miles, the report is amazing. Even for half that amount of miles it would still be decent.

The conditions how the oil was used is directly responsible for hoe it holds up.

But I will say for the record that EVERYONE should not go out and run 11k with Pennzoil conventional because of this UOA.

What it does prove that the OLM is a FANTASTIC system that should be installed in every vehicle (much more useful than some dumb thing like TPMS) and followed with the recommended oil by the MFG.

But plenty of people could use oils like this a lot longer than they are by doing some simple tests. Someone who runs their vehicle right now @ 4k OCis may be able to run 7k. What they should do is do a 6k OCI and get a UOA. If everything looks great then take it to 7k with a TBN and that will show where they are at.

Right away they have taken a $12 oil change every 4k (so $3 per 1000 miles) to 7k ($1.71 per 1000 miles) Savings of quite a bit of $$ over the life of the vehicle.

This also shows that blindly changing oil every x miles is a waste. A waste that is going to get more expensive as time goes on.

Take care, bill

Nice UOA, I don't think there is as much of a disparity as some think between todays conventional. Heck as I was pouring in my FS 5w30 Conventional for my oil change the bottle states its great for cold weather. :P

Now that I have a M1 sample, I'll have to send it off and see what the findings are on it.

Man, I hope that is the new Moly amount for PYB SN. I've heard from quite a few very smart people that the sweet spot for moly is right between 200 to 300ppm. Seems like Pennzoil may know that too.

That's one thing I wish more oils would have. Just a nice shot of moly, but not so much as to cause other (wear) issues [this is not fact based btw, just opinions].
