'10 Ford Taurus shifter knob movement issue.

My wife is complaining of issues with the console gear shift knob loose and wobbly in her 2010 Taurus.

You can see from the photos that the knob will twist in both directions. The only thing holding it from making a full rotation is the boot. The whole knob assembly lifts up about 2 inches as well.

I thought those were either threaded,

used a set screw

or both.

your pictures arent really that good for me to be helpful with the sun glare and low quality.

I ended up taking the gear knob off and noticed that their was something rattling around inside. So I removed the leather boot and chrome trim piece and a torx set screw fell out.

You can see the set screw that came loose here. When you replace you tighten with a T20 torx drive. Don't try to tighten to tight.
I put a little cat assembly grease on the rod during the re-assembly.

You need to put a new nylon tie during re-assembly.

Just FYI in case someone else runs into this issue. Might save a little time at the shop.
