10 dollar a gallon gas?

I hear ya. Some of those "tree huggers" would love nothing more than to see the average Joe not be able to drive anywhere. I really hate people who would take joy in the fact that Americans are struggling to put food on the table with these gas prices.

I see your point in the second half of your response. I don't know how those in some European countries get by. Very high taxes, very expensive petro, etc. I think it would be tough to make it in a place like London.

I've started eating alot of generic brands to save the money difference. Plus, I starting eating ramen noodles. nothing like having lunch for 20 cents

Well, this is based on what I saw overseas in Germany ('90-'94), talking with the Germans I got to know, the average guy isn't riding around in a vehicle that gets a mpg figure somewhere in the teens. That is, not many Ford-550 King Ranch/Harley Davidson pickups on the road to commute to work.

Ford Focus does well over there. Cars like the Honda Fit make sense, too.

If somebody is pretty well off, they might have a big powerful Benz or BMW. But this is for somebody with pockets deep enough that the price of gas doesn't matter. If $8/gallon gas is a hardship to you, you don't buy a car like this...what a concept.

I guess I'm a Dolt - I don't see this happening, but I've certainly been wrong before.

If it does get to rioting in the streets, looting, blah, I also hope we're treated to the spectacle of environmentalists being placed in giant presses to have the oil squeezed out of them, sort of like a modern day Right Whale. Maybe that will tide us over a bit until domestic production can get ramped up again.

BTW, my wholesale price of gasoline, all grades, was down .005 dollar yesterday, and .0325 today.

Yes, it's much the same in the U.K. Denmark, France etc. For the average Joe running a small Diesel or sub-compact like the Ford Ka it costs about the same per mile as it dose here in Canada running a car like a Gas VW golf. Taxation is a Bear, but social services mean you don't need to put money aside for if you get sick or retire or need to support an elderly parent. Kind of works out even in the end.

Don't bash "all" tree huggers. I'm one by employment. While I sometimes see the need (like leaking UST's or Joe Blow dumping TCE down into an aquifer recharge zone) there is a lot, like other laws, of overkill. Common sense is sometimes neglected.
I'm telling ya'll, nuclear power is the way to go. You ever stop and wonder if Iran is really trying to get their nuclear program up and running for just producing electricity? Think about it, oil is going through the roof. If they can produce all their electricity from nuclear power, then sale all the oil for 100-200 bucks a barrel, they'd make a whole lot more money. There is so many things out there that we don't know. Oswald didn't do it alone but we'll never know.....Even though there are idiots out there, there are still a lot of good people here and I don't think we'll get to the point of rioting and looting. Face it, there are a lot of lazy people out there that want everything for free. It may come between the lazy folks vs. the working folks....and your starting to see that with fuel thefts and it's only going to get worse. I really believe that if the government and industry could stop all the [censored] and organize together to aim in reducing our energy consumption, we'd knock down our consumption greatly. Kind of like how our nation mobilized during the Space Race. We just need a leader to kick start us. We'll be alright.....

The lady was a spokesperson for the Earth Day event. The people in her circles represent a no compromise solution to everything environmental. So, Kestas your situation that is commuting is not acceptable. Her answer to a similar question was to accept a lower paying job close by and be a more responsible citizen of the earth. The answer was not well received outside her circle of friends. I drive a 41 year old car and she told me that it was criminal at best and that if I had to drive and violate the earth I should at least buy a new hybrid car. They believe that the threshold of fuel pricing to help save the earth would be $20 a gallon. Because these people have such extreme positions they will never be taken seriously. They have no solutions just ideas and wonderful thoughts.

The news this morning predicted by year 2100 the US population will be one billion, three times what we have now.

Somehow, I just don't see all these people living in McMansions and driving SUVs with cheap gas as we are now, plus have the fertile cropland to feed everyone. Something will have to give.

I'll bet my 11 mpg, V12 powered car, would really make her froth like a rabid dog. V12's are great for those days when a V8 just doesn't make a big enough carbon footprint.

So, I guess she's not a highly paid professional. If I had the choice between staying put and taking a low-paying job near home or finding a decent paying job that requires my talents a half-hour away, I'd weigh my options of paying for the energy to commute further, or dealing with a move... not immediately move closer to work. Economics usually gives you the answer. I wonder how earth-friendly it is to move every time you have a job change.

I hate people that believe they have a knee-jerk answer to everything.

A wise man once said that once you have one person telling another how to live, there will be serious problems.

She'd probably be happy sending us back into the stone age....then maybe one of us caveman would carry a big stick and grab her by the hair and........not going there.

I'm hunkering down and saving my money.

I see all the sales pitches, and I'm not buying ANYTHING.

American Express just called me and asked what they could do to earn my business, since I have a zero balance and no activity on my card in six months.

They dropped the interest rate down to 9 percent, and threw 10000 bonus whatever points at me, and I'm still not buying anything.

wow, I haven't used my chase credit card in two years. all they did was send me cash advance checks up the wazoo

I took a screwdriver to it last year... It was a 300 cell cat. The precats are 1200 cell so much more restrictive. My conscience is getting to me though. Starting to feel bad about pulling the cats off.

Folks, ya gotta ask yourself, what are the financial interests of people who want to see $200 per barrel crude.

Most of this run-up in crude prices has been driven by market speculators. Any talk of higher crude prices increases their profit. It's no different than that boom of the tech stocks in the late 90's, or the boom in real estate prices a few years ago.

Speculators tapped out the white-collar, educated tech savvy folks who dumped tons of money into the stock market looking for quick millions from companies like Webvan and pets.com. When they were sucked dry they went after Mr. and Mrs Homeowner, luring them with cheap refinancing schemes so they could buy vacation homes, botox treatments and a new Lexus. Now those people are tapped out, too. Who is next? The average working man and woman, many of them renters and would never invest in the stock market.

When will this end? Simple! It will end when everyone who can be tapped for cash is tapped. If you can figure out the next high return speculative move, you will be a very very rich person.

Riots? Looting? Mass mayhem in the streets? Please..... some of you people watch too much TV. Rioters and looters may be a lot of things but they don't spend money and cannot be leveraged for profits. It's not good for business. Besides, if public tensions start to boil, the police will place curfews on the general public, cops at gas stations to enforce rationing and frequent roadside ID checks to keep the populace in their place, working, generating revenue and profits and maintain consumption.

Either figure out how to get on the gravy train or risk being run over by it, people.
