0w40 for my whole fleet?

I have been toying with the idea of running 0w40 Euro oil in my whole fleet.
That would consist of:
2011 Nissan Quest with 3.5 v6
1998 GMC C1500 with 4.3 v6
2003 Cavalier with a 2.2 Ecotec

The 3.5 Nissan is said to do well with 0w40, deals well with the shearing.
My GMC does some fairly heavy towing for a v6, so I thought the extra viscosity may be good.Not really sure if the 0w40 euro actually has any benefit regarding the added stress of towing or not.
Not really sure if the Ecotec needs 0w40 but it would be nice to only have to stock 1 type of oil.
This would be the new Amsoil Euro formula.

Do it! The only vehicle in my house that doesn't run Mobil 1 0W-40 is my Expedition, but next oil change that's what's going in. Just makes things easier and everything I've read says they run well on it.

That oil will cover all bases so to speak from easier starting in NY winters to heat in summer. Got it in my Jeep now. Albeit the Castrol formulation

Itwould cover my fleet too, and I've got a diesel in the mix.

I dunno if it would work in my focus with a 4cyl or my 97' Jeep with the ole' reliable 4.0

It's going to be fine for all those vehicles. So would a fully synthetic 0W30.

I have one engine that calls for it specifically and I buy it buy lots when I find it on sale I've run it in almost everything I own with zero ill effects outside of likely but undetectable to me mileage loss in the first few K because of a tiny increase in viscosity over a X W30.

Its the closet thing on my shelf to a "universal oil".

I asked a Mobil tech last week if I could mix AFE 0W20 with AFE 0W30 to get rid of a few stray quarts I have of their AFE 0W20 laying around. He told me they wouldn't back the product if I had a problem and wouldn't know what the end mix would be. The tech guy said it would be OK to mix them to top up toward the end of an OCI, but not to use if for a full OCI. I found that interesting, and it goes along with what Shannow and a few others have been saying for quite some time. Another member had a similar exchange with Mobil, and was told exactly the same thing. I also asked about using 0W40 for a mix oil, with AFE 0W20, and his reply was exactly the same.

I asked only because of all the discussions lately about mixing different viscosity to get a home brew.

I think German Castrol 0w30 would be better for these engines.
Or a stout 5w30 like Mobil 1 High Mileage.

Screw 'em, I've been using Mobil 1 0W-40 & 5w-20EP mix for last two changes and that's approx 2.5 year total(1st run over 11K mi)... Car runs fine without any issues, and the std BITOG statement applies "hasn't used any oil"...

Just curious, what do you feel like you're gaining by doing this? Why not just get a 0w30 or whatever it is you're aiming for?

Had a bunch of 0W-40 on hand, did a 50/50 to use it... Wasn't saying it's any better/worse than either by it's self...

Probably just using what was bought on clearance. I got some 20 and 40 weight oil also. Mobil 1 and Pennzoil Ultra Platinun. Oil at $1 or $2 a quart is too good to pass up.

What is the viscosity at 0F for 0W40 vs 0W30? I thought 0W40 was thicker at cold temps. I know NY isn't New England cold, but I think you guys can get some cold snaps too (up north certainly).

Probably not an issue as long as you have a good battery though.

the 0W40 is likely thicker at 0F than the 0W30 (likely).

The "0W" is a combination of the CCS (the ability for the engine to turn over), and the MRV (the ability of the oil to enter the pickup), and have the same limits whether the oil is a "0W" 20, 30, 40, or 50.

Given that 0F is so far against the -40F test temperatures, the point is moot.

They didn't test the mix therefore they don't know how it performs and don't back it. That's I understand, a big company like Mobil would not say anything without data to back it.

My reason for mixing is I like certain HTHS that is hard to find over the shelf. Like xW30 with HTHS of 3.3-3.4 for both S2000 and E430.
