hi everyone i just bought an 09 sonata gls 4 cyl 5 speed traded my 90 ford hight top conversion van in got 3500 for cfc deal paid 13800 out the door anyone know how good these cars are ive heard good and bad it is kinda doggy had 500 miles when i got it any info appricited

They are great cars and the engines/transmissions are very reliable. Don't listen to all the Hyundai haters on this board which I'm sure will be all to pleased to share their opinions in this thread. 99.9% of them have never owned a Hyundai but feel the need to put the brand down because of their past problems.
I on the other hand have 3 Hyundai/Kia vehicles in the family and all have been stellar.
My Santa Fe has 200K KM (120K Miles) and has had 0 problems and 0 trips to the dealer under the warranty period. I couldn't be happier.
My moms Kia (sister company to Hyundai) has only had a defective CD-Player and otherwise has been great as well. It has 100K KM (60K miles)
My sister has a 2000 Elantra that she beats the living snot out of and it never sees regular maintenance and it's got about 300K KM (180K Miles) and it has the original transmission/engine. I don't understand how it hasn't seen an engine or transmission replaced because my sister is very rough on the vehicle to say the least. Her Hyundai must have been built right for it to put up with her as an owner.
The 4cyl in your car is an excellent, hard to kill engine that will give you many trouble free miles if looked after.

I think you made a wise choice, and good maintenance to that vehicle will return you many trouble free miles.
My sisters lack of maintenance, and my our other two cars track record should speak volumes about the quality of the Hyundai brand IMO.
My sisters car has the same engine your Sonata has in it. (Slight differences, but mostly the same)

that certainly is a big change - from a high torque (bus) to a 4 cylinder econo car - but I think you will be glad and enjoy it - especially with the 5 speed. It will grow on you. besides, the fuel savings alone!

While I never owned a Hyundai, I had 09 Sonata (also 4 cyl, 5 spd auto) as a rental for a week, and I was really impressed with the car. The re-designed (for 09) interior is really sweet
, you certainly don't feel like you're driving a Hyundai, it's that upscale.
Two things I didn't like:
Suspension - while quiet and smooth on fairly good roads, but on road he;ll, they call highways in Montreal
, the suspension was transferring a lot of jarring vibration to the cabin, also made a weird popping sound.
The 5 spd AT - I think Hyundai programmed the AT too much to the comfort side, even though it's 5 spd, it makes the engine feel far less peppy, even compared to my 2.0 Mazda3 4spd AT. It's slow to downshift, and only downshifts one gear at a time, when my Mazda can go from 4th to 2nd at half throttle if the speed allows it.
Overall, however, it's a fantastic family car that is comfortable and really spacious. When I'm in the market for a mid-sized family sedan, Sonata will definitely be considered.

IMO it's a large car to have the 4cyl/5spd combo, so I wouldn't expect it to be a drag racer. Ideal for a commuter vehicle w/ lots of highway travel. That will be a very reliable powertrain for you. Man that price even after the CFC rebate seems to be a bit on the rich side for a 4cyl/5spd Sonata!

hey thanx for all the good replies it seems like a good car it is doggy though i hope it gets better with more milage however a few mechanics have told within 5 years the car will be scrap hopefully not, also 1 other thing that bothers me is that there is no replaceable fuel filter im used to always changing out at 15000 but this car has none.

A friend of mine has [2] 06 Sonadas..One has the V6 and the other a 4 cyl...I like the one with the V6 better..The V6 has over 100K miles and the 4 cyl has around 60K miles..They got them both used in 07..Both have been problem free.
The Sonada is a real nice looking car.

I looked at the Sonata. 2.4/5speed is an excellent choice. But, had a need to replace a 4x4 here. So, grabbed the Kia Sportage instead.
Practice regular maintenance with some common sense and it'll last forever.
Dealer discounts/rebates on Kia/Hyundai are excellent. That 3500-4500 CARS welfare makes it an easy choice.
