Just did the first oil change on my 06 Civic. I had heard that Honda filters were made by either Fram or Filtech. The filter I removed was made by Honeywell. It appeared to be better made than the Purolator Premium Plus I replaced it with. What brand filters does Honeywell make? Later

Thanks for the info. Since it is a Fram I am surprised that it appeared to be better made than the Purolator. Maybe the Honda filters are made by Fram but are a higher quality.

"Made by" does not always means "same as".

Fram is a small part of a big worldwide company called Honeywell. They likely put the Honeywell name to deflect the fact its made by Fram. If customers saw the Fram name they would buy a Fram next time and Honda would not want that.

My lastest issue of the Honda Riders Cubs has an ad pushing the Honda oil filter as the best for your bike or ATV.

Curious... what in particular made the Fram better made than the Purolator? Are you talking the exterior or did you actually cut it open?

The Honeywell (Fram) looked like a better quality filter to me for a couple of reasons. First, the metal shield inside the filter that holds the media in place goes the entire length of the filter on the Honeywell and stops about 3/4 of the way down on the Purolator. The Honeywell had a thicker nut in the end cap with more threads on it. Also, the filter media looked like it had more pleats and therefore more filter media. Later

The 'Honda' filter is made to their specifcations, so it's not the same a the orange can.
Closer to the 'Tough Guard' line.
Honda cycle filters are made in Japan, not sure about the ATV ones, likely Japanese as well.
Parent company of 'Filtech', IIRC.

Actually, Honda OEM "Honeywell" is similar to the FRAM Tough Guard design, but with a Honda supplied media element. Good filter if you can find it for around $4.00/each.

FleetFilter sells the NAPAGOLD filter for this application for around $3.75 or a bit under. I have a few "Framonda" filters also and while I haven't cut them open the NAPA filter is significantly heavier and appears to be of better quality-but, I have gone over 10,000 miles in my car using the Framonda filters and the motor hasn't blown up yet. If I had the choice it would be the NAPA from FleetFilter.
