Mobil 1 M1-212A made in South Korea.

The response I got from MANN+HUMMEL is pretty much a nothing response.

They say the information available is on their website, which means its 99% at unknown microns because they do not list the micron rating and will not tell me despite their contact us page literally saying you can email to ask the micron rating.

They also wont say if there is any difference between the 20K and M+H made Mobil 1 filter.

I wont be buying the Purolator 20K as a result that is for sure, potential customer lost. Looks like I will be going with the South Korea made Mobil 1 next oil change unless someone cuts one open and it is concerning or ZeeOSix gets a terrible efficiency rating from the call.

Thanks for the call. They stopped providing efficiency when we found out the Boss efficiency listed on the website was way off. @Alien wrote to the purolator president and got the correct specs and the website corrected.

Partial update on getting efficiency info for the new Mobil 1 filter now made through Highline Warren. I called Mobil customer service and the guy transferred me to Highline Warran filter dept ... Mobil doesn't have the info. Guy at HW didn't have much info on the Mobil 1 filter, so he escalated it to the manufacture ... so waiting for a response from HW on that info. Guess I was the first guy to call HW and ask for that technical info, lol. Will report back when the info comes in.

How the hell does Mobil not know the efficiency of a product under their name and how does the distributor of that product not know.

Hopefully it is a decent efficiency but that is just terrible on Mobil and Highline Warrens part for not knowing.

Yeah, I was surprised too. But HW just started being the supplier for Mobil 1 Extended filters, so maybe they will get that info up with some more time.

This is from the HW website. It’s their synthetic oil filter. 99%@30. Should be interesting to get an official efficiency on the M1 filter from them.

I stopped by the oil filter section at a Walmart in east-central Florida today. No sign of any 20K Purolators. I did look at a couple of Mobil 1 filters. I just randomly looked at 2 different ones. The M1-113A was made in South Korea. The M1-301A was made in Vietnam. Both had holes. Forgot to look at the end cap date code or the price.

Thanks! We’ve seen some interesting base plates.

Is that the only one they show in the Prime Guard line? Doesn't say what the mileage rating is, or talks about it being a "Extended" filter.

Because Mobil is probably just licensing out the name and letting Highline Warren administer it.

The same situation with STP and Autozone. Autozone just licenses the name from STP and does all the legwork. I doubt STP or their parent company Energizer Holdings would know jack about the filters sold under their name either.

I believe P.G. may also be producing the O.E.M. filters ( 26300-35505 ) for HYUNDAI / KIA at a plant in South Korea . Can't remember where I spotted it .

So I was looking at the Mobil 1 filters today and noticed the date codes seem to have a letter in front of them that differs based on if it's a South Korea filter or a Vietnam oil filter. I didn't do a thorough check for this, but it looks like the South Korean filters have a D prefix and Vietnam-made filters begin with L.

The letter reminded me of the way Mann+Hummel and Purolator start their date codes with the letter F for the Fayetteville, North Carolina plant.

Could the "D" prefix be for Dongwoo Mann+Hummel, the South Korean subsidiary of Mann+Hummel?

I don't know what the "L" could be yet. I'm not seeing any M+H factory presence in Vietnam, which casts doubt on my theory about the "D" code now.

^^^ From what I see, I don't think M+H is involved with Mobil 1 filters anymore. The company Highline Warren is shown as being responsible for the Mobil 1 oil filter warranty now on Mobil's website ... it use to be shown as M+H. I guess it's still possible that Highline Warren is still using the same factory as M+H was ... who knows in the convoluted world of oil filters. :D

I know everyone is gonna attack on this but all these external photos of the South Korean and Vietnam filters look like garbage. In consistent base plates. The holes are half covered. The can look cheap and where the base mounts to the can looks like crap. Not sure what the deals are made out of but black ones were always on basic super cheap filters.
Is everyone really abandoning all the sturdy looking made in USA filters for these overpriced foreign filters that people make pennies an hour to produce? Sorry bout the rant just calling as I see it.
Hard to believe the insides are perfect and reliable if the outside had such vast variance. Also if all these companies are suddenly going to these few factories the quality is bound to go down quick with the volume going through the roof.
Okay, I’m sure i am in trouble now

Sorry lots of typos in that response. I read it after I posted. Phone changed a few words

Yeah, I am.

On a running average, the Asian made filters are a better build quality. Been proven time and again here. If one wants to look through a political lens and ignore downward trend of USA made filters, have at it but God, Mom, Apple Pie and waving the American flag is not going to overcome blown pleats and leaking bypass devices.
