Greetings All,

I am a new member, after having read this list for several months. Among my vehicles, I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup.

This truck has the 5-speed automatic transmission and the 9.25" Chrysler Corporate diferential. The differential is non-locking (I'll be changing that one of these days.) with 3.55 gears.

I will soon be at 30K miles and anticipate needing to service both components. The truck sees a 50/50 mix of city/highway driving in metro-Phoenix, AZ. Most of the miles see 300-1500 lbs of load. Occasionally the truck caries about 2400 lbs in the box.

I am familiar with the ATF+4 situation and plan to bite the (dealer) bullet in order to avoid any guff on any warranty claims that might crop up (I know about MOPAR transmission weaknesses).

Three questions;

1. Is MOPAR ATF+4 available at a (comparatively) reasonable price via internet / mail-order? If so, from who?

2. Is fully replacing the fluid, rather than a pan-dump, of significant value this early in the transmission's life (considering the cost of fluid, etc.)

3. What is your recommendation for differential lubricant, given the application and load?

Thank you all for the vast amount of knowledge you have provided so far. I look forward to providing my own information for your use, as well.

Eric

I had a 3500 4x4 CTD and used Mobil 1 75w90 synthetic in the diff's changed every 60K miles. I agree about the transmission and I would have the dealer do a complete fluid exchange (don't let them flush it, meaning put anything but ATF in your transmission)
