friends sister has a 02VW jetta 1.8T. bought new. maintenance neglected, anyways, engine is apparently seized up solid at 180000kms. Car is at mechanic awaiting replacement motor.
for kicks, I suggested to him that we try to free it up. what should we do? dump diesel fuel/kerosene in there?

I'd soak the pistons in LC20. But if you want something that you can get locally, try some seafoam. If you get it unseized I can't imagine that the rings are going to work very well. Plus, you've got some work to do on that turbo. If the oil hasn't been changed that often in a known sludger you are in trouble with that turbo.

we're just doing this for kicks to see if we can get the thing to run again. the engine is obviously toast and a replacement has been ordered.
where am I going to get seafoam in toronto, I've never seen it at canadian tire or walmart. does napa carry it up here?
is it liquid or actually a foam?

Possible alternatives to seafoam: Marvel Mystrey Oil, Berrymans Chemtool, paint thinner, acetone, toluene, methy ethyl ketone...aka...MEK. Be carefull as all of these are flamable to one degree or another.

The diesel fuel/kerosene you mentioned would probably work for a piston soak and/or crankcase soak as well as any.

Please report any results, and please be careful with the chemicals especially the more voliatle ones (acetone, toluene, methy ethyl ketone, Berrymans Chemtool).

Rickey.

Marvel Mystery Oil......

If that don't work, you probably don;t want to know anyway.

At least they may believe in getting their oil changed now, whether they admit it or not.

You're supposed to change the oil in a VW?

Ummmmmmm. Engines sieze because the bearings get stuck. Pouring something down the sparkplug holes won't do anything.

Word. A man of true vision and deep understanding.

PS. Is there any way this doesn't turn into a VW-hater thread?
