I purchased a 2001 Taurus from a friend for $800. I dropped the transmission pan and changed the filter. I gradually added 7.5 qts of fluid and a bottle of Lubegard Green. For some reason with the fluid temp at 184°f it still barely shows on the stick. Am I doing something wrong ?

Add more until it is at the bottom line then go for a drive and get it hot. Just add a cup or so at a time, there is only about a 1/3 inch between lines on that dipstick.

184°f isn't hot enough ? I've already driven it 3 miles and idled it for 20 mins.

You should've replaced the transmission pan with one that has a drain plug :sneaky:

That might still not be enough time. Transmissions can take a long time to warm up. Go for at least a 10 mile drive, even better if you can do 20 miles. After driving the 10-20 miles, check the fluid while the car is still running.

If you need to add any more fluid, add the fluid while it's running. And then cycle P-R-N-D-R-N-P, staying in each gear for a few seconds.

I've cycled through all the gears. I'll go for a longer drive and report back. I would have liked to installed a pan with a drain plug , but it wasn't in the budget.

I didn't realize these would lose that much fluid from a pan drop. And what are the benefits of Lubegard Green bottle ?
