01 Odyssey misfire?

2001 Honda Odyssey. Started shaking when she was driving it last night. She took it to Autozone to have the codes read. It showed a code P0302 and told her EGR valve needed to be replaced. Does this sound accurate? If so I’m going to grab one and replace it for her.

P0302 just means cylinder 2 misfire. In the absence of other information, it's impossible to narrow it down to the EGR valve. I'm not saying the EGR is not bad, but I would be looking at the secondary ignition system and fuel injection first.

If you truly have a single cylinder misfire, you focus on the causes of a single cylinder misfire.

Some most likely causes are a bad #2 spark plug, plug wire or coil pack boot, coil pack, or a fuel injector issue.

I’ll definitely check those items first before I replace the egr.

Don't forget valve adjustment, incorrect valve adjustment tops the list for misfires on Honda's.

My dad has the same van and had the same problem. Turned out to be a bad coil pack. Ordered a cheap one online and runs great now.

And at that age, if it's never been done, possibly a burned valve.

Update:

I started it up and pulled every coil pack one by one, and with each one, the engine would shake even more than it already was. The last one I pulled was coil pack on cylinder number 4. No change at all, so I found the guilty culprit. Ran to Autozone and bought a Duralast coil pack. Came home, installed it, now she runs like a dream!! Smooth as silk!!

Odd that #4 was the culprit when #2 was the one throwing the error.

Honda misfire counters are known to be inaccurate.
