1) no
2) on AMSOIL 5W30 and approximately 10K when i'll change
3) no
4) both are 24 miles to work and 24 miles back. Malibu (me) is pedal to the metal. wife is easy on the Mountaineer but when we go "out" i drive it and hard as i can on it.

both vehicles had 3-4.5K mile changes of dino Havoline 5W30 and have no clue what type filter think is was team 1 on it. from 30K on both till about 97K on Malibu and 118K or so on Moutaineer then i started AMSOIL. first month Malibu used a little over a quart then leveled off. Mountaineer i've added maybe .5 quart. i was just going to run for less than 10K on both then change.

so are you saying after 100K the rules dont apply anymore ? i thought AMSOIL was the best ?

Pablo is just telling you that it is not a good idea to go 25,000 miles on an OCI with a engine that has over 100,000 miles. If you want to see if you can, do an analysis around 12,000...heck you wont even see 12,000 in a year with your daily mileage...so chill out...take it easy.

i average probably 18-22K a year on the Moutaineer and about 18K on Malibu.

i am chilled. i dont mean to sound rude! sorry if that came across like that.

I think the oci advertised by Amsoil is 25k/one year, if your vehicle is in good shape, ie produces a good uoa. If you don't get the 25k in one year you still change your oil. If there is any doubt about your vehicle or your driving conditions and habits are not reasonable than the extended oci may not be the way to go. You could change your oil twice a year to take care of a bad winter. It that's too much trouble, just drive your car until it drops and get a new one. And you question about mileage has everything to do with maintenance, weather and driving habits. For some, 100k is a worn out car and for others it just broken in and on it's way to 200 or 300k miles. I'm headed to 400k with a Civic that has never had the head off and is 21 years old. A neighbor of mine never gets over two/three years out of a car and does no maintenance, none. His two/three year old cars are in worse condition than my Civic when he sells them. I think maintance is just reflects the owners habits and attitude toward his car(s).

The Amsoil 5w30 & Amsoil 10w30:

Normal driving condition: 25,000 miles per year.

Severe driving condition: 15,000 miles per year.

Amsoil is good oil but at some point blow-by does increase and make longer OCI's more difficult. I wouldn't say anything magical happens at 100K miles, but that's where Amsoil made the cutoff. With your cars, heck that point might be 250K.

Read this:
Amsoil's recommended Change intervals (you need to scroll down and click on "AMSOIL Change Interval Charts")

So it's not that the rules don't apply, they change, that's all. It sounds like you engines are fairly clean and a 20K OCI should be doable with your type of driving. Any oil company recommending extended OCI's has to (somehow) account for all the engine abuse out there

I do recommend a UOA somewhere midstream - just to make sure your engine is in good health.

i do all my own work. unless its internals. due to time constraints. so far they've both been good to me. plugs, wires, belts, thermostats, coolant, transmission fluid, diff fluid, fuel pressure regulator, fuel filters, wipers, etc.... all taken care of at the proper intervals by me. only reason using Quick Lube for so long for oil changes was convience. but now that i have access to a "pit" to ease changing, no jacking or climbing under, i can just walk right under.
will have these vehicle till they wont go no moe.

so should i go with 10W30 ? i was thinking the 0W30 would be the better choice i.e. they say it will go 35K ? even though i wouldnt go that long

please advise ?

ya'll's last two post jumped in after i put my last one. i was thinking of doing analysis on both maybe at the 9 month mark or at a, to be determined, mileage mark. just to see what i get.

You don't really need the 0W and the 10W price is a lot lower. Both will do 15-20K miles. If you want to spend the extra dollars on 0W-30, I would go with the HDD 5w30.

i have a 2.4 liter 4 cylinder Malibu and a V-6 Mountaineer. 107,000 and 128,000 miles respectively. driven in southern middle Tennessee. what grade AMSOIL would you recommend ? 0W30 or 5W30 or 10W30 ?
both driven less than 20,000 annually. intend on one change a year. using EAo30 filtr on Malibu and EAo15 filter on Mountaineer. also yearly change.

I would go with the 10w30 ATM.

I need to ask a few questions before you go to an extended OCI:

1) Have you done a UOA?
2) What kind of oil and OCI's previously?
3) Did you have an AutoRx clean cycle in mind before starting?
4) What type of driving?

Lastly, since both cars have over 100,000 miles, they don't fall in the 25K max oci category.
