    Filter Help

I use that filter on my 04 Acura TL. It's just fine.

Syn and Dino Recommendation for Honda CR-V?

For dino oils I would use Havoline or Chevron 5w-20. My synoil choices would be Mobil 1 5w-20 or Amsoil 5w-20. Filters would be Mobil or Purolator, or even Honda Filtech (not Fram).

Who Makes What Filter? - One more time.

An addendum to the above list: Please note that not all Honda filters are made by Fram. Some of their better filters are made by Filtech (?), and what I think is their best filter is made by Toyo Roki of Japan.

    Royal Purple Genesis

I did a search on this...no hits. Just curious. When I was a kid in the early 1950s, I don't remember that Royal Purple was around. However, I do recall an oil being marketed (and sold to the hot rod set) by Union Oil Co. called Royal Triton and that oil was dyed purple. Any relationship or just...

    Lower Unit Lubrication

The 80W90 lube is much too thin for my outboards. My newest motor is a 1947 2.5 BHP unit and the oldest is a 1925 2 BHP kicker. I'm just looking for ideas for a different (maybe synthetic) lubricant. Thanks for the post.

    Lower Unit Lubrication

As I previously stated, 80w90 is much too thin for my use. It would quickly run out past the seals, some of which are cork. Thanks anyway.

    Lower Unit Lubrication

I use Lubriplate 105 in the lower units of my outboards (older model Johnsons). Are there any synthetic alternate lubricants available that I might consider?

    M1 0w-40 vs. D1/T&SUV vs. Series 2000 0w-30 for VW/Audi 2.0L

I ran Mobil 1 0w-40 in my 1999 Saab V6 for several years, then switched to Delvac. I kept accurate records of fuel consumption both before and after the change and noted no change in overall fuel mileage.

    When to start using M1 T&S 5W-40

I am impressed! I don't know which impresses me more; JR teaching the b/f how to drive a stick, or bigpaulo's response. Anyway, yes, keep the breakin (factory) oil in there for at least 1000 miles, then go for the synoil. I would, however, stick with the manufacturer recommended oil weight.

ratio for OLD johnson 10hp outboard?

Older Johnsons (pre-1950) of small displacement generally take 1/2 pint per gallon of fuel. Some of the larger displacement engines of about 16 BHP take one pint per gallon. The recommended weight was 40, not 30. Basically the same for Evinrude. Merc recomeded the same ratio, but 30 weight. I...

    5w20 Hard to Find

I have been reading RoadRage's comments for months. Yes, he likes both Moto and Havo for dino oils. I understand that Havoline has a very high moly count and that's what Honda products hunger for.

10w30 okay when car calls for 5w30?

When you say "0", I think you mean freezing, right? Anyway, I think you will be fine using either of the weight oils that you mentioned. The 10w-30 might be a gnats whisker better, but you will never notice any difference, IMHO.

    5w20 Hard to Find

I have been running 5w-20 Motorcraft semi-syn in my Acura, but at the next change want to switch to Havoline 5w-20. I have found lots of 5w-30, but no 5w-20 in any of the auto parts stores in my vicinity. I did find some 5w-20 Chevron Supreme thinking it would be similar if not the same as Havo...

To all recent Honda Owners- At what mileage did you change your factory fill?

2004 Acura TL Changed out factory fill at 4000 miles. Replentished with Motocraft semi syn 5w-20 oil and Purolator filter. Not using any oil. Now at 7800 miles and plan on next changeout at 8000 miles with Havoline 5w-20 (if I can find it) and another puro filter.
