Mercedes C300 Factory fill Mobil 10W/40? 2010 mi

I think you are right. It must be the Shell. I do think it would be a good idea for Mercedes to tell the customer. If only to keep some oil nut like me from changing the oil too early.

Mercedes C300 Factory fill Mobil 10W/40? 2010 mi

The sticker under the hood says it is Mobil 1, but it does not say what type of Mobil 1.

Maybe, but that does not explain the missing moly.

    Mobil 1 SS 10W-30, 4,993mi, 2003 CTS

Yes Ted it does. I had to check the service manual to find out. The engine is an Opel engine, designed, I believe in Germany. Why would DOHC contribute more iron?

    Mobil 1 SS 10W-30, 4,993mi, 2003 CTS

Here is a Blackstone Labs analysis on my Caddy. The car has 14,198 miles on it. It is a 2nd car and does not get a lot of use so I changed the oil at 11 1/2 months. Plus I wanted to switch to Redline. Any metals not listed are zero. Al, 1 Cr, 2 Fe, 32 (engine still breaking in?) Cu, 4 Pb, 2 Mo...

    Mobil 1 SS 10W-30, 4,993mi, 2003 CTS

The report is a little puzzling to me. Blackstone thought the Fe could be break in. GM engines have a reputation for taking almost forever to break in. I recently posted another UOA on a Mazda with Redline which had high Si. I live in the Chicago area and it is not especially dusty, but...

    Redline 10W-30, 6037mi., Mazda 626 4 cyl

OK guys here are the details: Car purchased used on 10/14/02 with 21,288 mi. I immediately changed the oil to Mobil 1 5W-30 and changed it regularly. On 11/7/03 at 30,329 miles I began an Auto RX treatment using Pennzoil 5W-30 for the wash and rinse cycles. On 3/6/04 at 34,420 miles I did the...

    Redline 10W-30, 6037mi., Mazda 626 4 cyl

Well, Redline is certainly a controversial oil. I am doing these analyses as a test of Redline. I bought the car with 22,000 mi on it, ran Mobil 1 for a while, then did an Auto RX treatment and put in the Redline. I am going to keep using Redline and monitor the results. I should have another...

    Redline 10W-30, 6037mi., Mazda 626 4 cyl

I had Terry analyze the report and I don't think he would mind me saying that he feels the Redline is still using itself up cleaning the engine. Under the Blackstone scale the oil still has plenty of residual TAN he says.

We had a snowy winter. A lot of the driving was in snow.

    Redline 10W-30, 4,461 mi, Mazda 626

According to Blackstone the universal average for Tin is 2, mine is 3. I am running a Mazda OEM air filter. I had a Fram on the car previously, but I had a silicon problem so I switched. As far as tune ups go there is not much you can do to this car except to change spark plugs and air filter...

    Redline 10W-30, 4,461 mi, Mazda 626

Here is a Blackstone analysis of the oil in my 2001 Mazda 626 2.0L with 38,881 mi on the car. This is my first use of Redline. The previous oil was Pennzoil 5W-30. No make up oil was added and the oil filter was a K+N. Miles on oil 4,461. Al 2 Cr 1 FE 7 Cu 6 Pb 2 Tin 3 Moly 454 Pot. 4 Boron 10...

    Mixing 10W-30 and 5W-20 Redline

I might be driving more conservatively just because I am thinking about it. 11% is more than I have heard of elsewhere too. The car seemed peppier after I put Redline in, but that might be only psychological. I will do a UOA when I get 6k miles on the oil - this fall sometime. When I do I will...

    Mixing 10W-30 and 5W-20 Redline

I switched from Pennzoil 5W-30 to Redline 10W-30 on March 6, 2004. I immediately noticed an increased MPG of 10%. Now with 2,587 mi on the Redline I have confirmed that the mileage increased from 20.46mpg to 22.79mpg. That's 11.4%. All driving was city driving using Mobil regular gas bought in...

    New culture at GM

Has anyone else noticed that about every 5 years GM admits they made junk, asks everyone to forgive them, and then promises to do better in the future?
