I live in the desert about 1/2 way between LA and Vegas. My new neighbors are from Ohio. This morning the neighbor lady called at 7am screaming about a snake in her yard.
Her husband goes to work around 5am.
"It's 20 feet long!" "Come kill it before it eats my dogs!"
Now I really want to see a 20 ft long snake in soCal.....Especailly one that can eat her full grown german sheppard.
I grab my shotgun and some #9 shot just incase it is a rattler.
I walk over there. I see her holding a shovel up in the air.
She see's me and drops the shovel. I walk up to the snake. No rattles and no diamond shaped head.
It's a harmless Gopher snake.......Although the biggest one I have ever seen, not quite 20 ft long though
About 6 ft long.
I told her that it's a good snake and that it eats rats. She don't care she wants it gone/killed.
I put the gun down and picked the poor fellow up with the handle of the shovel. He didn't seem to mind much.
Took him to my yard. He can feast on the rats here.
