    Oddball Oil Names

Ro`tel´la: n. 1.(Zool.) Any one of numerous species of small, polished, bright-colored gastropods of the genus Rotella, native of tropical seas. Gastropods are animals that have shells, therefore, it fits with "Shell" branded oils.

    10W40 dino any good now?

It works great in my Jag, even down to zero in the winter. Jaguar 3.6 engines love the heavier oils, though.

    10w40 when 5w30 is recommended

Your stated coldest temperatures won't affect the cranking ability of the 10W-40, but you might feel a difference in acceleration and perhaps see a decrease in fuel economy. If you don't notice either of these things, then I wouldn't worry about it. On a positive note, you may see a decrease in...

    What IF????

I'd go with Amsoil. They seem to have an oil for virtually every application, and I'd never have to question the quality of the product. I know it's on the higher-end of the price spectrum, but the extended drain intervals make up for the higher price.

    Who runs Amsoil 10W-40?

I'll be running it in my Jaguar, once I'm finished with the Auto-RX rinse phase.

Can I use up some 5w-20...

One thing I've learned from BITOG is that other people love to experiment with your engine! You made the right choice by sticking with the 5W-30.

Can I use up some 5w-20...

Because of CAFE, Ford would specify 5W-20 in everything if they could. Since they don't specify it in your case, take it as a strong sign that you should stick with 5W-30 in your vehicle. Why tempt fate?

    Why so many ugly mugs?

Personally, I think once the "pimping your ride" craze dies down, we'll start seeing some normal front ends, along with normal-sized wheels that aren't ruined once you hit just one pothole.

5w20 in 4.6L Ford work van

My dealer told me that 10W-30 was "dangerous" to use in my 4.6, even though the official shop manual calls for it as the recommended oil, so don't go on the dealer's word. They'll tell you to use whatever they're selling. In Australia, they break in Ford modular engines on 15W-40 and specify...

    Kmart prices = outrageous prices

All the oil bottles at my local K-mart look like they're about five years old and many have dust on them and are leaky. I'm not kidding, either. The only oil that looked "new" was on a special stand-alone display (PYB). They ought to pare down their oil selection to the bare minimum. Walmart and...

    Ford 5.4l 3v design /5w20

No conspiracy, in my opinion. It's just that I don't have much confidence in anything that keeps changing. For example, the official Ford Shop Manual for my 1994 T-Bird (printed in mid-1993) specifies 10W-30 for the Ford modular 4.6 liter V8. The owner's manual for my car (printed in late 1993)...

What's the best all-around carry handgun?

I would go with my Colt Combat Commander (stainless). With .45 ACP power, and a very thin profile since it's a single-stack, it fits the bill for me. I'm a 1911 fanatic though, so I'm admittedly biased. My favorite 9mm would be my HK USP Compact. Unfortunately, I live in a state that doesn't...

    Ford 5.4l 3v design /5w20

And yet 40 weights are still specified by Ford for their modulars in other parts of the world. So, once again, CAFE rears its ugly head in the U.S. I'm not bashing 5W-20 (I'm running it in my 4.6). I'm just saying these modular engines will run and run on any number of oils, provided they are...

Wolf's Head Full Syn motor oil?

Yeah, the first time I ever checked out the Wolf's Head site it was late at night and I had my speakers all the way up. I almost needed CPR after that.

    Valvoline Synpower 5w-40

I know it's kind of pricey on Amazon, but I've never seen it in any auto parts store. The NAPA stores in my area do not carry it. However, if one NAPA carries it, couldn't they have it shipped to any store?
