    cleaning engine

i hit submit too quickly. from the faq: Aluminum - Is it safe to use Simple Green on aluminum? Simple Green products have been successfully and safely used on aircraft, automotive, industrial and consumer aluminum items for over 20 years. However, caution and common sense must be used...

    cleaning engine

i wish i had pictures of the engine bay of my last car. stained the block, ate up all the small unpainted steel brackets. and the engine was just warm, not hot when i did it. i've been using simple green for years, and will continue to do so, but it screwed it up quite a bit.

Tire pressure-33 lbs PSI or what?

i normally run 3 psi over in the front and 2 psi over in the back what the sticker says. mileage, tire wear and handling are all improved and comfort is unaffected.

    cleaning engine

it will stain and etch anything aluminum or coated steel. for my engine i dilute it about 50/50 with water, then mist it over then engine. let it sit a few minutes, then rinse it off. take a brush to the worst places.

    cleaning engine

if you use simple green be sure your engine is cold. i've used it and it works pretty well, but there are some other good products out there as well. the s100 total bike cleaner works well in the engine compartment as well.

Pressure washer car wash-Do they strip

sure, they will typically peel some wax off. if it's possible, try to use a spray wax after you wash your vehicle at the car wash. mine always gets eagle one waud or meguiar's quik wax after a wash. there are other products that perform similarly. they are just booster waxes that don't have...

    plastic scratcxh remover

typically there is a coating on the headlight from the manufacturer. once this coating is worn away the plastic becomes more prone to oxidize. plasticx will remove some oxidation, but it will also remove the protective coating.

    plastic scratcxh remover

plasticx is pretty mild. it might reduce your scratches and reduce odxidation. if that doesn't work look for some 3m plastic polish (i can't remember the exact name.)

Tires for the Northwest? Rain even snow tires?

+1 i had a set of nokian wr on the last subie (prior to it being totalled). they are fabulous in the wet and pretty good in snow. dry traction is ok (certainly better than the potenzas), but there is some sidewall flex. they are predictable in more spirited driving. the potenzas may be good...

Are synthetics really worth the extra bucks?

having run all sorts of oils (synth, blends, and dino) and having uoa pulled on all of them, i've settled into the blends. i can run slightly less mileage as synth with similar or better wear numbers. dino was ok as well, and in terms of wear counts per 1000 miles was just as good as synth...

Best cleaner for plastic engine parts?

i use s100 spray on my bike and decided to try it on my car engine. spray on, let it sit, rinse off. it worked quite well. be sure that your engine is cool or cold. no more than backing it out of the garage... once i'm done with that i either wipe down the engine compartment with eagle one...

    Automotive Clay

even a lot of new cars could stand some clay, especially if they were transported by rail. it will remove those small rust blooms left by rail dust. i've used the mother's clay bar kit for years with great success. use plenty of lube. any detail spray or lightly soapy water should work. too...

    Car wash

i've used zip wax, meg's, mother's, blue coral, eagleone, whatever. they all seem to work about the same to me. my car rarely gets too dirty, so it's hard to judge. bugs and road tar are the biggies. no matter what i use i typically have to wash the front end and the low surfaces twice if they...

    Break-in method

i pretty much drive a brand new car like i'm gonna drive it. i just hold off the cruise control for a bit. my current car was bought, driven to work for a day or two, then made a 6 hour high speed run to visit my dad in the hospital. 96000 miles later, no oil consumption and no problems. same...
