GM Back In Top Sales Spot

I'm going to be posting a very lengthy review on my 7-week experience with a 2023 GMC Yukon XL Denali soon. Granted I've always loved full-size GM SUVs, it was extremely impressive to say the very least.

What brand of water pump for 2005 gm 4.8?

Correct; the two options you have from GM is the ACDelco 252-822 (China) and Genuine GM 251-731 (Canada). The Canadian pump is OE and 3 times the cost of the Chinese one, for good reason. Every other pump I've looked at for this application was made in China, with the exception of the OE unit...

Thickest Dexron 3 ATF currently on sale?

I would go with TES-295 approved fluid if you're looking for a heavy duty fluid.

    Melling water pump

When I was rebuilding the engine on the Mitsubishi, I had a look at Melling for the hydraulic lash adjusters and found out they were made in the the U.S. So I went ahead and bought all 12, only to find out I got 6 made in the U.S. and 6 made in China. The U.S. made ones were slightly heavier, so...

    Liquimoly Speed-Tec

According to their website, it's a "Performance Improver" as well, although it's also a cleaner: Amsoil PI Performance Improver Gasoline Additive. I notice similar results with a bottle in the tank.

    Liquimoly Speed-Tec

From my experience, it does. I regularly use this in my Explorer, and have done so for a number of years. It wouldn't be realistic to expect a big difference, but it does make a noticeable enough difference to give it that extra little bit of a "kick", if you will, under partial throttle, much...

    Liqui-Moly Hydraulic Lifter Additive VOA

Not much to show on the VOA I guess, but I've had great success with this over the years; particularly in Mitsubishi and VW engines for some reason.

    Couldn't Pass It Up

Yes, the body kit is factory. In the process of changing all the fluids/filters, and of course, the timing belt and components. I know the 1MZ was a non-interference engine, but when I found out the 3MZ wasn't, I'm not taking any risks with a 17 year old timing belt.

    Couldn't Pass It Up

Although quite a bit less than KBB Value for a similar vehicle in Southern California, there was still a minor premium on it locally and just couldn't let it go. 2005 RX 330 AWD with 55,314 km (34,571 miles), all original with the exception of the battery, tires and wipers. Factory paint, zero...

    Parts prices.

Certain parts are also best bought OEM, especially engine mounts. The cost here is a huge bonus!

    New motor, why shouldn't I run M1 0W-40?

I see no reason not to run M1 0W-40 in your application. It's a good choice!

Petro-Canada Duron Vs Shell Rotella 15w40

Duron HP 15W-40 is decent oil; when they came out with their CK-4 formulation, it's performance was compared to that of synthetics. That's not to say Rotella is bad, but if it's been working for you, there's no reason to switch unless it's purely for the sake of switching to another brand.

    FJ80 Land Cruisers

I'm a huge fan of the Land Cruiser 70 Series. For the price, it is very tempting.

Drivers Slowing Down Excessively Over Bumps

Considering "Traffic Calming Measures" are there to get you to slow down, that's what I always do regardless of what vehicle I'm driving; keep it under 5 MPH. Some of the speed bumps around here are really just meant for SUVs and trucks with higher ground clearance, and really sucks for folks...

Why i will never recommend Hyundai

They're certainly decent vehicles. With that said, most dealerships take incompetence to a whole different level. I understand new techs have to start somewhere, but a lot of those I have seen at dealerships are better suited to oil changes and brake/tire jobs than anything else. Then again, any...

Who's your favorite YT gearhead personality???

Can't pick a favorite, but I like Car Wizard, Eric O, Wes, Ivan and FordTechMakuloco. Of course Hoovie fits in there, too!
