Was Your Dad or Granddad a Believer in Non-Detergent Motor Oil?

My dad owned a gas station and I remember a lot of talk about regular and ND oil. I cannot remember the exact conversation or details because I was too young. I remember my dad always had a lot of Pennzoil laying around and he swore by some sort of additive to keep lifters quiet in his...

The only college degree that truly was an education

I did fine in life educating from the book of hard knocks. I had a lot of different jobs and some were much better than others. In today's world businesses change or liquidate and send you down the road. You get a job you like, keep it, and if something happens you go out there and find...

Who here double times their oil filter?

I change oil in my Civic and run the filter almost a year. I will do about 3 oil extractions and refills with my MityVac and only change the filter in about a year. I only accumulate about 10,000 miles per year. The engine holds less than 4 quarts and it's very inexpensive when I use Kirkland...

    The temperature is going up.

Up and down here too. It was 90 degrees the other day and now they are talking about the temps lowering to possible freezing overnight. All in all it's been a great winter and early spring.

Thinking of trading in the truck for a Tahoe...crazy?

Because of the recall of 2021 to 2024 models. Owners have had a lot of problems with them and the recall suggests changing to a 40W oil.

    55 No-Post Chevy

56 is my favorite year. I don't know the production numbers but when I go to car shows the 56's seem more rare and hard to find. Favorite color for me is the turquoise without any white accents.

Thinking of trading in the truck for a Tahoe...crazy?

I would go with a Suburban but don't get the 6.2 engine. I have a Ford truck but I had a 99 Ford Expedition a few trucks ago and just loved that huge beast but it sucked a lot of gas with the 5.4 engine. Both the Suburban's and Expeditions are great choices.

    Blown engines on riding mowers.,,

I would say they don't check their oil or they hit a rock and break some internals. Some engines like cars are just built badly and you get a lemon. Overheating can destroy them too but for the most part I would say lack of maintenance.

    Whats so great about Jeeps?

I think Jeeps have that cool outdoorsy factor that is sought after by many. Most of the Jeeps around here have never been off road to any extent. I would rather have a nice riding pickup that gets close to the same mileage.

How Much Time do you Spend on Oil Research/Analysis

I really don't overthink it. As long as my engines are running ok I am good. I do spend a lot of time on this great site though!

My old Ghetto Ride, a '68 L36 Roadster

Very nice and I like the factory wheels. I had a 69 roadster with factory wheels with the trim rings and center caps as well. Mine was Bridgehamton blue with a white convertible top and black interior. 4 speed 350/350 hp. I always like the black color on the C3 Corvettes.

    GM 0w-40, Super Tech 0w-40, M1FS 0w-40, and Supercar.

I have been using 0W-20 in my Honda and Ford F-150 V8 for years without any problems but after reading all this hype about heavier oils I am seriously considering just moving up to heavier weights in these vehicles. On the other had I kind of doubt weather switching to a heavier weight on the...

Caught by surprise- BOA savings account interest rates

Not a savings account but I get 5% APR every month on my checking account balance up to $25,000. It's hard to beat a rate like that and their CD's are only around 4% or a little more and change every time Jerome P blinks. I am not sure why I would even want a savings account when I have CD's...
