Why not? When parking on an incline you always use first or reverse whichever is the opposite of the roll away risk?

Trust me, one day you'll have a parking brake cable break or a bracket rust off and cause the loss of tension in the cable. It happens, and the car being in gear can hold it still, especially in a low gear. Just as a low gear makes it easier for the engine to turn a wheel, so does the selection of a lower gear make it HARDER for the wheel to turn the engine.
