Hello...another FNG here. I bought a used 2016 F-150 3.5L Ecoboost (25,500 miles) in January and my OLM is down to 10% so I'm getting ready for my first oil change. I live in central Illinois (so HOT summers and COLD winters). My drive to/from work is 1.5 miles each way at between 30-40 MPH, so lots of really short trips but it does get some highway driving most weekends. I've read tons of posts here and just wanted to see if you guys see any problems with my plan.
Between the short trips and my particular engine I've already decided I don't mind paying the extra $$$ for synthetic 5W-30. It's choosing which one to get at Walmart that has me stumped. I'm right around 30,000 miles now...I'm guessing I'll end up getting an oil change every 6 months or so based on the OLM. So, I'm considering just getting whichever oil is on sale or cheapest at Walmart each time I need an oil change (Pennzoil Platinum, Mobil 1, Castrol Edge, etc.). Right now it's Castrol Edge. Are there any potential problems with this plan? Any other oils to consider? Any reason to stick with the same brand each time? Any other advice for my particular situation that you'd like to share? Thanks a lot.
