YouTube on Roku extraordinarily long unskippable adds

That still doesn't sound right. Even if using their free-tier service, there is no way YouTube is going to hold a viewer hostage to make them watch a 20-30 minute advertisement and ONLY that advertisement.
not hostage yet, just hit back to go to YouTube home and then hopefully remember the video/author so can search for it.

had this happen again today AFTER fully watching a video and selected the next.

Was a 15 minute advertisement for an organic low temperature processed dog food and it definitely was an advertisement.

Thankfully I have not seen this yet. But I've noticed that on some of the longer videos I watch, the further in I get, the more frequent the ads become. I get it, they have to make the money somehow.
I paid for streaming services fr No ads. Now you have to pay and get ads.

Is this situation linked to some kind of revenue sharing agreement with ROKU? I watch free YouTube videos on my laptop daily and never have a commercial/advertisement last beyond one minute. Other household members watch YouTube programs/videos on our ROKU TV and no commercial lasts more than a minute; however, they may show 2 or 3 commercials back-to-back.

We have never signed up for the YouTube Premium paid service nor have we used the free 30 day trial.

PS. I will never support googles YouTube with any type of payment. I have noticed (free version) YouTube commercials getting more frequent. I dont watch shows on YouTube but I do at times watch reviews on products when the ads get to frequent or long. I click out of YouTube. They dont want me as a viewer but they know darn well others will not have the will power to stop.

At least they give you the ad supported version for free, other services charge for ads!

Yes, exactly. They lured us all over from cable, and now want to be broadcasters and paid to do it.

Another reason to like Youtube Premium. Yes its $15. But no adds, and your maybe helping monetize the individual content providers you like.
I'm referring to Youtube TV. Don't watch YT very much because of the ads. Now they are on all streaming services except Apple TV.

The creators definitely get paid more from premium views, about double last I knew. YouTube still takes their 45% cut though.

I dont do YouTube TV however yes, all the streaming services have added ads at what used to be the standard no ad price.
Netflix is still good as the movies dont have ads during the movie, so far with their $17.99 plan which USED to be around $8.00. Now if you want no ads at all you need to pay Netflex $25 a month.

Apple TV still good, we subscribe a few months a year when it's on sale, catch up on all the stuff then cancel.
We have found us watching a number of stuff on Peacock lately. They are certainly up and coming. We paid like $24 for the ENTIRE year with ads, not sure if its my imagination but I think they are adding more ads then I am used too. They also have an ad free version

Hulu plus has become so laced with ads it's almost not worth it anymore. Though for $1.99 a month we tolerate it but not sure for how long. Maybe if the price stays at the $1.99. Some family members dont bother with it anymore.

Yes, annoying all the ads. It was bound to happen once streaming caught on. We were VERY early adopters gosh over TEN years ago. Our TV bill still under $30 a year. We also on occasion rent a movie on Fandango not very often anymore. As all the streaming services compete for the latest greatest in movies some of them pick up movies just about the same time as a theater. Just watched Black Bag on Peacock.

We also have around 30 channels on out attic antenna with DVR and program guide at no cost. It's good for local news and such. Also of course MAJOR sport events. But other than that it's shocking how main stream programming has vanished. It would not have if the general public would tune in with antenna's but that is our society now. No one wants to bother, even though the image can CERTAINLY be better than standard cable service and in many cases, such as main sport events the image will exceed even streaming services to the critical eye.

Credit goes to the production builder of our 2022 new home. Still the entire house was wired with Coax in additon to some ethernet.
So the antenna is also distributed throughout the house plus we use Roku boxes (as we have for well over a decade) on all TVs instead of the built in TV software.
