Your thoughts on Toyota Sequoia's

Island,

I wasn't trying to rip you. Just throw back some of that "in your face" that you threw out. IMO, you are making the right decision.

You obviously live in refinery land, and I'm sure you have friends/contacts at them.

The stuff ain't getting any cheaper. The sooner we wean off of gasoline, the better. Just think, in the late part of 1999, 87 octane was $.749 around here. Seventy-five cents a gallon! I could squeeze 25 gallons in my Z-71 and hand them a $20.

$20 won't even put 12 gallons in my 1995 Accord today. Soon, it will take $40 to fill up instead of $32.

Off on a tangent, it's not just gas that is going up, people, it is everything.

Around these parts, it's the vehicle of choice for short, middle-aged Asian women.

(my mom is a short, middle-aged Asian woman, but she drives a 1997 Nissan Pathfinder... the gall of her!)

Sheesh, he's getting it used, so it's not like the SUV-haters have an iron-clad argument. It's already out there on the roads. Recources to produce it have already been consumed. At least he's driving clients around in it, and not just driving it alone.

MPG-wise, a minivan will also haul a lot of people. But loaded down, your MPG will not be any better in a minivan. Having managed, in the past, a fleet of both 3.3L chrysler minivans and 5.0L V8 Explorers (both used to haul heavy equipment) I can tell you this is true.

Now, if he was buying it new, perhaps there's a better argument. Though I still would not agree with this argument.

IMHO it is no one's business to tell you how to run your business. That's not even what your topic was about. You have bills to pay and a house to keep, maybe even kids to feed. And it is your decision - and your decision alone - to make the best choice for your situation.

Now, back on topic... I think the Sequoia is a fine SUV. Personally, though, I'd go with a domestic. Poor residuals for domestic SUVs these days means your dollar will go farther on the used market.

Some folks may bash the domestics these days, but I don't think there's any question that they make great trucks.

As far as the brakes, this issue was well into the remedy stage early in the life of the Tundra. The factory had a Tech Service Bulletin that replaced rotors, pads and perhaps calipers. To the best of my knowlege that completley fixed any brake problems.

ekpolks comments match the many that I have read for the Tundra. Most people rave about it.

Man, this topic is still going.

I think for Islandvic, it is not a matter of choice to get a large SUV or not. He HAS TO, because that's his profession to make people wanting to buy the house and people there prefer that kind of vehicles. So it is either a Sequoia or another large SUV.

In San Francisco, there aren't that many Sequoia because most people don't like the way it looks, you see far more Lexus SUV, Infiniti (FX is very very popular here due to good handling), X5, Tahoe, and Explorer. I'd say he should buy something nicer than a Sequoia, like a Lexus or X5 if his clients are usually higher income, or a Tahoe if they are mostly die-hard union workers or patriots.

Buy what your clients want, not what you want.

Blaspheme me as petty but......

Who wants a vehicle named after a tree?

What's next..... the Toyota Tulip?

Mazda Magnolia?

Dodge Dogwood?

The Ford Fred!!!!!
