I see this is the latest gimmick to get the consumer to help bring auto makers out of the red! I think its very lame! How do you know what an employee pays? Like I said, another gimmick!

How about they bring out the rear drive platforms that they have shelved due to cash flow issues!!! Instead they offer lame duck SS models taht are pathetic!! An SS Malibu Max?

They are just repeating what they did two years ago but slightly different. GM flooded the market with their incentive war two years ago. Sure they gained market share but they were giveing away the store when you look at the loss on the back side by also giveing low interest rates! So they are already crying a river about takeing a $1800 loss on products due to their staggering health costs when they sell at MSRP compared to their competion! So they are going to improve thier situation by discounting the vechile drasticly?

I have a novel idea!!! How about they improve their market share and profit margin by designing vechiles that will sell themselfs at close to MSRP? If they built a vechile people really wanted that represent a good investment long term they would not need to discount them!

i havent bought a new car in over 20 years. I would do that if anyone came out with a rear wheel drive car without all the electric crap on it and it would run the quarter fast and was fun and could handle. Kinda reminds me of original mustangs, barracudas, cameros.

I could stand an engine computer, but not even electric windows. No trip odometers, no connection to satellite, no other techy crap and especially no wing or can muffler even though the wing adds 50hp according to kids with their caps turned backwards.

SAAB makes a nice car ...I've been considering the 9/5 as a replacement for my 1990 Audi 100 sedan. The five speed transmission is a Aisin (Japanese) unit and Aisin supplies transmissions to Toyota, so that's a real plus in my book. The SAAB turbo engines date back to the 1977 SAAB 99 and are pretty bulletproof. This may be the best "GM" vehicle they have to offer for $34k loaded! (MSRP on the in town was $41k, with the luxury package, internally ventilated seats and 17" wheels and 235/45/17 tires)

I can also run the Amsoil synthetic ATF in this Aisin unit, which calls for a Toyota Type T-IV fluid. That's something I consider when buying any new vehicle....

I'm with JohnBrowning, if GM would make a Camaro or Chevelle that resembled their '69 models (a'la the new Mustang) I would be at the local Chevy dealer asking what they'd give me for my Lexus for trade-in.

Nothing is going to stop GM's downward spiril. Management has no vision, and is hamstrung by a bloated bureaucracy. Bankruptcy is inevatable, and may be the only force that saves the company. The supervising court will probably allow the default on pensions, and throw out the union contract. The dismantling of the bureaucracy is a given. This will make GM attractive to other auto companies, as a purchase or merger.

Everyone investing in GM, or working at GM, will be hurt by this action. All except for the short sellers, of course.

Not to mention extended drains of 15+ are allowed on those vehicles per the OLM.

6-mo/5,000 mi requirement for Toyo is ridiculous.

A desperate act from a desperate company.

They are going down the tubes because of their greed and their refusal or inability to produce a reliable product.

They could have changed to the Japanese Way back in the '80s when their problems became apparent. Had they built more reliable cars they could have maintained market share. The Big 3 mentality is build cars that break down soon after they are paid off so that the customer has to buy another car. Japan builds the best car that they can build. Japan has loyal customers.

How much longer until a Communist Chinese "Company" makes a bid for Ford or GM?

Amen bro. I really liked the new Mustang but they have some crazy mechanism on the elec. window that lowers it a fraction of an inch when you open the door for a better seal on the weatherstripping. Why not just use doors with a window frame? To me a sports car has manual windows, locks, tranny and is as simple as you can get. Just a strong motor in a lightweight car. Also it's disturbing to see a domestic with only a 65% US/Canadian parts content.

Actually I think it's more than that. That SAAB 9-2X is almost 9k off MSRP (that's eusystolism)(and it certainly ain't no gimmick jack. 9k

) . Whereas some of the others are around 1k off. It varies.
THerefore you should check them all if your interested. Hey if they're going down in a ball of flames you might as well take advantage of it best you can.

Employees and suppliers have gotten discounts for many years. I was eligible, but never used it. You may be able to negotiate as good or better deal on your own if you have patience and the dealer is hurting to move cars.

Nissan does this for employees too. It's just a fixed % off the sticker like GM.

It's on the level, but you "can" do better! Especially, if you don't mind a "program" car, GM dealer will come down big time on price, if your patient.

I got a Buick for about 12K off the sticker with 20K miles on it and warranty left. About 100K now and no problems. I figure 1/2 price is a bit better than the lame discount. What's 20K initially if you go 300K?
