I'm not even a Ford fan and I won't swallow this concept whole.

On a side note -- I've got a Ford 9 under my Chevy...{which may be all the Ford I need in my driveway}.

The 370 will be less responsive to basic bolt-ons period. The Mustang has been going from ~375 rwhp stock to 420-445 rwhp with basic bolt-ons (tune, CAI, headers, exhaust, etc.).

The 370s are lucky to see 25 rwhp through bolt-ons. The old 99-04 2V GTs made similar power to the 350Zs stock for stock, but both with CAI, tune, headers, exhaust the the 2V GT would dyno ~20 rwhp more. The new 5.0L is the most responsive n/a Mustang yet to basic bolt-ons outside of the 2000 Cobra R.

Could not agree more!!

Also, Trav: the 350/370Zs are a dime a dozen around here, and if you count in the G35/37 coupes (which every Tony Soprano/Joisey Shore Vito/Guido wannabe now drives) they FAR outnumber the "retros" combined!!
So much for "exclusivity".

It's also funny how the "primitive" solid rear axle in the Stang enables it to outhandle (or at least stay right with) most of the Nippon and Teuton sports models, all the while on less sticky, inferior (perfromance-wise) tires.

Where does the Camaro engine, transmission and uni body get built?

It's Auto Alliance International in Flat Rock, Michigan. It was originally a Ford Factory, then Mazda bought it outright in 1987 to produce the 626, then in the 90's Ford bought back a stake in it.

The Mazda 626, MX-6, Ford Probe, and Mondeo derived Mercury Cougar were built there (the Cougar was the first Ford exclusive product to be built there since 1981). The Mazda6 has been built there since '02. The Mustang has been built there since 2005.

So technically it's a Mazda/Ford venture. But it's better known for the 626 and Mazda6 than anything else.

It was just a tongue in cheek remark about how American cars aren't as American as they used to be. You used to buy a Mustang and it was all Ford and all American. (unless you had Australian Cleveland heads, but I don't think any came from the factory that way)

The current Camaro was designed by a South Korean who worked for Daewoo but works for Volkswagen now. It is built on the Holden Australia Zeta chassis in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada.
I don't know where the various components are built.

Why did Ford use it in the Cobra and will use it again in 2014?

The Mustang may have power but its unrefined and ugly as a war wound IMO. Hyundai Genesis track coupe or 370Z would be my choice all day long.
Top Gear also didn't think to much of it,it was said driving it was like walking around with your shoelaces tied together.
Maybe in 2014 they bring it into the 21st century.

To late to edit but this is interesting.Close to a Subaru Impreza in track time, pretty low down on the list for a 500hp sports car.

I've been looking online a lot more tonight building all kinds of variations, even the V6s which are almost more appealing due to the goodies I can get right off the bat. I'm testing the three on Saturday and I think that will be what makes me decide which one I really want to work towards.

All of the below are online prices-

2011 Mustang V6 Premium Coupe (203A)
Mustang of America Package (Billet grille, HIDs, etc.)
V6 Performance Package (19'', etc.)
Leather
Electronics package (Navigation, Hard drive, Shaker sys., etc)
Ambient lighting
$32,445

2011 Camaro (2LT Premium V6)
RS Package (HIDs, Halo, 20s, etc.)
Head up display
Leather
4-gauge Auxiliary cluster
$29,575

2010 370z
Sport Package
$34,160

2011 Mustang GT 5.0 (103A)
3.73 LSD
Brembo Package
$32,585

2011 Camaro V8 (1SS)
RS Package
3.45 LSD
Brembo brakes
$32,995

There are obviously more to these vehicles but this is what I felt like jotting down. Essentially this is my consensus between the Mustang and the Camaro. The Mustang in the V6 I'm able to get much more "wow" factor with interior refinement and options, and a factory installed LSD which I really like, however it is more expensive, yet with the Camaro I get basically the same exterior cool features (HIDs, Halo rings, etc.) but no LSD and a heavier car.

For the V8s the difference basically is that I get more power and better gear ratio over the Camaro at a cheaper price with much less aesthetic accessories when compared to the Camaro. Also as I've previously said I love the reliability factor that Ford holds over American automakers.

My current Ram is the base model and I've got to say I hate it. I hate not having power anything, a weak factory speaker, plastic everything, etc. I put in a ton of money into the Ram and because of the aftermarket things I did I now love it. That is something I'm not going to do twice, I'm thinking the V6 Mustang is going to the top of my priority list because of all the comforts I can get along with it and it comes with a factory installed LSD which would mean less money spent over all on aftermarket gear.

I'll be testing these three (Probably the V6s not the V8s) on Saturday and I'll report what I saw first hand from those three. Thanks for everyone's input. Keep on discussing luckily this is one of the threads that develops good discussion not stupid banter.

Yes, I always make it a point to ask Mr. Clarkson for advice on American cars........

Sort of like asking Hitler for his views on Jewish literature.

I was scolded that we were suppose to take Top Gear as humor. Turns out like I suspected viewers do take their suggestions seriously as intended

. That show's anti-american bias is ridiculous. For example, they were testing a Corvette ZR1 and claiming it couldn't handle at all among other insults. Another mainstream automotive magazine tested the ZR1 against a Porshe 911 Turbo and the 'vette beat it by a large amount on the racetrack, and not because it acellerated faster but because it just flat handle faster on the track.

Aww man...
I was all about the Mustang...but nearly 3 grand difference? I may have to cross over to the enemy's side.
I know I can live without the 31mpg hwy (29mpg)and limited slip. But do I want to?

Yeah man that is kind of what I'm saying. 29mpg is great also though for a 305hp engine imo. The Mustang with that 3k extra comes with a [censored] ton of extras though that the Camaro doesn't even have as an option. So basically what it comes down to is how each one drives and whether or not I feel as though the Chevy has stepped up its reliability on this one. Also these are just online prices which are generally higher than a dealer will actually post plus when you get down to haggling on the price you can end up with a pretty good final price if you stay strong to your demands.

mechanicx I have to disagree he had nothing but praise for the lower HP ROUSH version,he even said it was a great car.

IMHO Top Gear is unbiased, they just test without a built in patriotic bias towards the local favorite.
Clarkson has ridiculed BMW for the X6 and lots of English cars.
If its good its good,if its bad its bad, nothing is a sacred cow.
The Mustang didn't do well and they said so.

The test of the Vette was not bad at all,he even chose it over the Audi R8.

Things change, but the solid axle remains in place.

VIR lap times:

Ford Shelby GT500 (2011) - 2.58.4
Nissan GT-R - 2:55.6
Dodge Viper STR-10 - 2:57.4
Chevrolet Corvette Z06 - 2:58.2
Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport C6 (2010)- 2:58.8
Chevrolet Corvette C6 Z51 - 3:01.2
Chevrolet Corvette C6 - 3:03.6
Porsche 997 GT3 - 3:01.8
Ford Shelby GT500 (2007) - 3:05.9
Porsche 997 Turbo - 3:05.8
BMW M3 (E92) - 3:05.6
Subaru Impreza WRX STI (2.5L) - 3:19.0
Mitsubishi EVO X MR - 3:13.3
Chevrolet Camaro SS (2010) - 3:09.5

So the primitive solid axle 3820 lb '11 GT500 is quicker around VIR than every 3,300 lb IRS-equipped C6 outside of the Z06.

Nissan by far. There is Camaro's and Mustang's everywhere. You walk outta the mall and there is no mistaking your 370Z!!!

Not up here. They are everywhere. And I'm not really a fan of the styling either, to be honest.
