I'm sticking with the tried and true Mobil 1 I have been using for the last 25yrs. My local Walmart has Edge for $36.00 for a 5qt jug. Mobil 1 is $24.00. This is not a direct quote but it's close-
Bottle of Edge on the back reads- Unsurpassed protection for towing, stop and go driving, long idle time, etc.
Bottom of the bottle reads- The Castrol Edge motor oil guarantee does not cover towing, stop and go driving, long idle time, etc.
Kinda contradicts itself don't you think?

It's Castrol's version of Mobil 1 Extended Performance, yes synthetic. No VOA's or used oil analysis, so it is hard to judge it just yet, but it is kind of expensive.

I was interested in trying it until I found out how much this stuff is. I better get a BJ with purchase of a 5 quart jug. And I've never really been a fan of Castrol products. I tore about my Camaro's motor and EVERYTHING is completely varnished. After 30k of use..

That's one big stash you've got to last 25 years.
 
I bought a bunch of 5L jugs of Castrol Syntec 5w30 and one 5w-40 (still not sure why on that last bottle

). Anyhow, I only purchased it because it was a GRP III oil on sale for the same price as YB.

+1. Castrol has always been more about marketing then performance.

Even if Castrol is surpassing Mobil 1 right now, it probably won't be for long. The sleeping giant will rise again.
 
Castrol is just trying to "catch up" with Mobil 1's Formula, so that it can meet the Corvette Specifications. That tells me a lot about Castrol. Its' a "Me too" company. It, also, tells me that whatever Castrol and Valvoline state about Mobil 1 may not be true. Exxon-Mobil may need to address the issue for the public's consumption. IMO
 
Castrol Syntec European Formula 0w30 gets high praise at BITOG. We also call it "GC." It contains PAO and POE, but the price is not much different from the other Syntec products.

I ahve also heard certain things about Syntec 5w40 as well.
 
"Catch up to Corvette specs"? I have some old Havoline Synthetic 10w30 that has Corvette spec. Not making the cold-pumping criteria is enough to disqualify and oil from the spec. You're in Texas and are worried about cold-cranking? Maybe you should read what the spec actually is.

Your post is full of presumptions and mistaken notions, maybe Mobil 1 is the oil for you.

Isn't the GM 6094M spec for pumpability, and 4718M (Corvette) for wear protection?
