yokohama tires good?

I think it depends totally on the model you are interested in...I bought Parada Spec-X tires for my RAV4 and they were fun, sticky tires that wore out quickly (which I expected). I also had some kind of AVIDs on my CRX ages ago that I liked and had long life. But, my daughter's Impreza came with Yokos that were so bad that we had Altimax RT43s installed within a week of its purchase.

i like them. I had a set of as530 which were OK for the price but my mom put the avid ascends on her fiesta and those tires completely transformed that car and it was already great before yokos. Quiet, smooth and great wet grip. Handle light snow well, too.

And if those were OEM tires, then that's a completely different ballgame.

Son has the Discount/Americas Tire Yokahama YK580's (H rated 205/55/16)on his Subaru. Good tire. Competent handling in dry and wet (recently had rain here in So Cal) Quiet No experience of late in snow/ice (few years ago when new) About 32,000 miles on them and still have plenty of tread. Only negative is ride is not as "soft" as ContiProContact they replaced. Overall a better tire IMO.

Yes, they were OEM tires...but, they are still Yokohamas and you can still buy them online or from a tire shop if you desire.

Right but being oem tires the car manufacturer basically "spec'ed" the tire for what they want.
Which usually means I hate them I've found.
The fact that you can buy them online means nothing. All OEM tires are available for sale online.

So OEM tires usually have little in common with aftermarket models from the same manufacturer... except the name.

Also saying "are yokohama tires good"
the answer is yes and no (as you found out)
All manufacturers have good and bad models.

So your question is too general.. kinda like saying
"Does Ford make good Vehicles" You need to be more specific..
and sometimes a tire manufacturer even makes 3-4-5 different models with the same name.
For example the yokohama AVID line...

So basically your answers will be as specific as your question.

I've known a few sets over the years. The old AVS DB was a screamer and taught the value of soft, soft rubber. They were a hoot to drive, even in the winter, and were inexpensive. They might last 18k. The truck tires are meaty, though in my size they tended to wander a bit. They always seem to balance well and never had a problem with out-of-round. I could see some merit to people claiming soft sidewalls. While I couldn't vouch for their models now, continental is in the same boat--- soft rubber, drive great, can be susceptible to sidewall issues.

Personally, I think they have a good product.

They're not sold exclusively at Mr. Tire.

I've had several sets of Yokohama tires over the years, and my current set of their new Advan A/S has been great. Quiet, sticky, wearing nicely, and at a good price. It was nice saving $500 compared to buying the comparable Michelin.

I got my winter tires on closeout and bought Pirelli's, but when they wear out I plan to try some of their IceGuard tires.

I got some IG52c's the first winter they were out for the Focus, 3 years ago. Good tire overall, quiet and roll as well as my well broken in all-seasons. Its an ice tire first, and good on ice, magic on hard packed snow even near freezing, not super in deep snow. I think its more my car, but on low speed slushy roads it seems to not clean out and slide more than it should, but at highway speeds they are good and controllable.
Seems to be wearing well, and I'm on track to around 40k miles at when they get to 5/32.
My wife was complaining about the 5-6/32 Xice on the CRV last night, and I'll probably get IG52c's unless the Xice3's are close in price.
