Yet another reason why...I smell fish...

We have a local shop, family owned and manned plus one LONG term mechanic, and nobody else touches our cars. We are very fortunate in that matter. It's hard to imagine what goes through some people's minds and why they do things they do.

Same with me. Very fortunate in that regard.

Plus they're so busy these days, the last thing they want to do is create more work. I'd imagine if something got broken, it was done accidentally or was on it's way out in the first place.

WOW!!!! This place is near me and I have purchased 7 cars from them. It is one of the largest dealerships in the area. At this location they sell Buick, Cadillac, Subaru, Mazda and Hyundai. Cochran also sells Audi and Nissan at different locations. I have had all my recalls done by them.
I have never had a problem with any of their service departments.
My CX-5 was just there for our state inspection and oil change and everything was ok. Wheel lugs set the right torque, oil filled to the right level.
Call me shocked.

I had a SEARS employee damage my Subaru many years ago. I'm standing 10 feet away when he pulled out a box cutter and sliced a CV joint boot. I got the manager, and the rubber boot was replaced by Subaru at Sears cost. I suspect the guy was fired. ED
Very unlikely the employee did that with no coaxing by his boss, who would have been the one to fire him.

this is what I do 99% of my own repairs. Trying to find a trusted shop is almost impossible IMO, plus I save more money.

just my $0.02

“Troopers are telling drivers to do your research and make sure you trust your mechanic doing the work.”

Good luck on that. At pretty much every dealership you talk with the service advisor. The mechanics/techs hardly ever come out.

There are some unanswered questions in this story. Nobody knows why they did this. Disgruntled employees?

Did you make a wish?

Its a gamble you take everywhere.
2013 outback with 29 miles on it the garage installing the trailer hitch dented a fender walking past it.. didnt fess upto it.

2020 ram getting oil sprayed guy dented the bedside (very small) but it had 200 miles on it and was washed and waxed the day before...
didnt admit to that either.

When I worked at pep boys they had squirt cans full of various fluids. If the monthly special was shocks you squirted the shocks, trans service and you squirted ATF on the pan etc

From reading the story it seems to me they were checking if the pads were loose and the sliders and piston slid back in. But they went about it in a very hamfisted way and damaged the pads.

Impossible? It may take a little bit of work and asking around but I've never had a problem finding a trustworthy shop wherever I've lived. The common denominators have been: 1. Family/private-owed; 2. The owner still turns wrenches and is in the garage daily; 3. People I trust had been using them for years without any issues; 4. Great online reviews

Or they were 'encouraged' to do it...that's why I smell fish...as in fishy story...
