NO this is not a hate on Vista thread. You can beat on MS all you like though
So we have his network. Business, home, toys, every funnels wired or wireless through the trusty Linksys-G 2.4G (with Speedbooster!
) - 'net via cable modem.
All the PC's have been playing well together (Win 7, Vista and XP). But I could never get any of them to print from the XP PC connected to a HP Photosmart C3150. It was the last hold out and frankly I gave up. The wife this AM said she wanted to print from her laptop to that printer, so I got ambitious.
I installed Network Magic (I have a network license via the bus.) on her laptop PC, turned everything on.....seems like I was making progress, but alas stuck. Yet at the same time I was able to get all the other PC's to print there with Network Magic alone. No need to download drivers, nothing. Yay - BUT STILL mission not accomplished! So I putz and putz and oddly I find (by accident I guess) that the printer driver she has on the PC doesn't recognize printing through USB ports (USB001, for example) - I still don't know what's up with that - but I simply deleted all vestiges of that printer and driver, download the latest driver from HP and instantly she can print - and yes it shows and goes through USB001. VICTORY!
I guess I have a question. Why would wired (ethernet) or wireless network printing go through USB? - I guess it's a virtual port?
