Yamaha FJR Oil

KTM is only "recommending" synthetic fluids because of the OEM money deal they have with Motorex, who wants to push their grossly overpriced products onto unsuspecting, and uninformed consumers.

Oil recommendations by bike mfgs do not come about because of lots of intense study to see what fluid is the best for their machines. It simply doesn't happen that way, no matter if that is what you think happens or not. The engine designers state the proper viscosity for that particular engines specs, and that is that.
Any other recommendations is nothing but marketing at work.

Is that octane recommendation RON, MON or RON/MON? From KTM, I doubt they state RON/MON.

I think an FJR (a heavy sport-tourer) and a KTM super duke (a light hooligan bike) would be the ultimate set of bikes.

I don't have enough room or goodwill built up with my better half to own two street bikes, so the best compromise for me is a light sport-tourer closer to the sport end of the spectrum. My Triumph Sprint ST has been excellent in that regard as an all-rounder, but with 45k km's on the clock it was getting a little bit long in the tooth, and I can't afford to lose any time on those two one-week motorcycle trips I allow myself each year.

So at the bike show a few weeks ago I pulled the trigger on an '08 BMW K1200S which I think will also be an excellent compromise between a super-sport and a capable sport-tourer. Can't wait until the bike arrives and the snow goes away!

Your Sprint ST was tired at 28000 miles?!! My friend has a Sprint ST with 90000 miles on it, he says it runs like it is new. He traded in a BMW R1150 that had numerous electrical issues, along with a surging EFI system, for the Sprint ST. He also has the luxury of a climate that lets him ride 9-10 months out of the year, and that I'm jealous of.

It wasn't tired. I was tired of it. Great bike, no problems except a small idle issue that I believe to be the IAC motor (one is on order).

A great handling bike with a mega-wide torque curve, but I just wanted something a bit newer. Always liked the K1200S, so I pulled the trigger. Lots of great rides and great memories on that Triumph. Will likely sell it to a good friend of mine, and will feel comfortable doing so. I am confident it won't let him down.

I too would be jealous of a 9-10 month riding climate. Although, I could have ridden today, and I saw about 4 bikes on my 20 minute drive outside town.

No tour and deal. Just got the itch at the motorcycle show in January, and pulled the trigger. I have liked this bike since it first came out. Before that, I liked its predecessor, the K1200RS, which my neighbor owns.
