I was feeling very alone....
If the board goes out again, please bear with us. The server had problems and may continue to have until they can eliminate the bad guys:

The Server101 network endured a massive distributed denial of service
attack today, which intermittently affected our network and many sites we
host for a few hours.
A distributed denial of service attack is an attack that originates from
many different sources on the Internet and is extremely difficult to
stop, as many other prominent networks have experienced in the past.
Server101 has measures in place to detect and counter attacks. The
difference in this case and the reason the network was affected, was due
the sheer intensity of the attack. The nature of this attack is the fact
that it is directed from many different hosts which made it difficult to
contain, as the more our technicians would block offending IP addresses,
the more new addresses would need to be blocked.
The reason why someone may go through the trouble of launching such an
attack is usually because the offender wanted to take a particular
web site down or disrupt service to a site. So if anyone was recently
threatened with such action to your own site, then we would appreciate if
you would let us know for our investigations.
We hope this email is helpful in explaining why our usually reliable
service was disrupted today.

Actually it's Aussie humour. We thought we'd bring it down for a while to see who suffered the most. I probably did. But really the servers are in QLD. Initially I thought it was power failure as a large part of QLD had blackouts yesterday after bushfires destroyed a large transformer. 8 houses gone i hear. Early start to the danger season.

What? ..and miss all the fun?? I was afraid Tony had got the $h-ts of you and me slugging it out and shut down the board to teach us a lesson.

I tried to get to the web site and I figured it had gone down for some reason. I didn't know it was a denial of service attack though. We really need to do something about all of this insanity on the internet where some people feel that they have to bring down the internet. If people truly like computers and computer technology and like the freedom of the internet, why would they want to bring down the internet?
The Army had problems and started using Apple servers. Apparently they also use Apple computers in the field.

Obviously the work of Fram, well could be Slick 50. I have really suffered. Worst part is that another board I hang out at has been down since Saturday and still isn't back up. I have had to do useful things.
Frankly this is the most reliable of the 6 boards I hang out at. The one that is still down announces an upgrade. Fortunately they keep things simple, fast, and reliable here. Maybe I will lose Yahoo too because they have an ''upgrade'' coming up.
