I'm not entirely sure what's being shown here other than it looks like that Model Y pad is too small. That's not a Model Y Performance caliper as far as I can tell. I thought they were all red. I might have to get a close look at this setup when I pick it up. Might be hard to see with tight spokes on the 21" Uberturbines though.

I was looking at the swept area of the brake pad surface.. Model Y's are undersize then look at those.

The seat breaking into 2 pieces while he gets sideways whiplash from hitting the grass is pretty bad.

What's impressive is how large the caliper is in relation to the pad size. I'm surprised that Brembo would even want to put their name on it, though I'm sure they're all contracts and building to the manufacturer's specifications.

I don't think it's a surprise that brakes happen to be smaller on EVs and some push it farther than others. As much as people lambast Tesla for making Performance versions with small brakes, it's not like they're calling it a track pack or something like that. I don't have any intention of hustling my 4,200lb crossover around a track, 530hp or not.

Xioami is a major China cell phone company sold world wide except in N. America
Not only that is that their premium Cell phone (Ultra 14) blows away (as far as the camera) anything on the market.

My point has always been entry into EV market is about electronics sort of like Radio Controlled cars. Battery pack, motor and your set to go.

My other point is this, confirming what I have posted in the past. We (including I until recently) think the USA is the end all of all things consumer, sure we are the richest country on earth but we are only 350 million out of over 8 billion people. So yeah, it's great to get into our market but there is 8 billion more people in the world than our country to sell too.

Which brings me to this final point. I am currently sitting in a high rise condo in BGC Manila Philippines. First time here visiting wife's family. Im blown away. Sure it's a 3rd world country and poverty is all over the place. At the same time there are AMAZING areas of affluence, safety and luxury that Amercans cannot fantom. Even more so very welcoming people. My wife and I have walked miles of the city streets here, daytime, night time, never a fear for safety among dozens of high rises, malls, INCREDIBLE living, safety, security EVERYWHERE (it's a status symbol) super polite armed security everywhere and I mean EVERYWHERE.

So always first thing we talked about is the variety of cars on the road, my son in law (on this trip with us) went into some high end car dealerships, Ferrari etc (also a Harley dealership here) He mentioned some brands he never heard of that had really nice cars. I said the initials BVD, he replied that's it!
Anyway, all over the world ( I am not exactly a word traveler) but wow, my eyes were opened to the variety of cars here. From all manufacturers, some of them look really cool, even in the SUV marketplace. Xioami is now another car brand. Im getting off topic, we see all these cars, even major brands, Toyota, Nissan etc ... and they carry model names I never heard of plus they are really cool. (we are SUV people)
The one thing we did see last night at a nearby luxury hotel was a few of Diplomat Vehicles at a hotel> They were GM decked out Escalade's the only GMs I have seen here.

Anyway, rambling on, need to do a thread on this someday. It's a big world out there other than the USA I have learned and I struggle to even find a car model sold in the USA here in Manila and there are some really nice looking cars. Amazing learning experience.

I don't believe Xioami has a chops to author their own phone code, but basically run an android version. Seems they toss some good hardware.
So does Samsung along with tons of non removable garbage bloatware and a party line to XI- like Samsung.

Im curious about their auto code and for somebody like Sandy to tear one down so we can see if its really high tech in every area or just slapped together by tons of people making jack, working for a company that that pays nothing for energy, get gov money for free, and possible steals IP cant say until we see how the code and architecture work.

We'll see how they do with cars, but until we see comprehensive testing and benchmarking against the current available stuff I cant tell if they are a player or a me too.

Lots of guys can slap together the equivalent of a non production race car that doesn't have auto crash or carry a warranty, have the battery live through more than the warm up and lap, you know - be a real car that can be delivered to a client.

I could care less how a one off pet project like this performs on the ring or anywhere else for that matter.

They make an awesome cell phone for people into photography 🙃 according to reviews best in the world. (They do not sell in the USA)
Xioami Ultra 14

As far as cars, yeah way too soon to see if they are successful though as if today they are running ahead of forecast in sales numbers by a significant margin

It's a cell phone company. Just getting into cars
I think they start out as a "slap surplus together to make something fast" company. Portable battery bank with excess surplus batteries being their first product, then cell phones, then VR headset (Oculus Go's hardware was R&D by Xiaomi). You can think of them as a fast fashion company or a Trader Joe / Grocery Outlet / Ross / H&M kind of company, selling what they can build quickly from what they can get on a good deal. Not that they have horrible product but they aren't a "we will solve your problem" or "we will build the best product you fall in love with" company.

Commodity car is probably fine, but I wouldn't buy a super car from them.

Could be a change in strategy from Xiaomi, since it's much harder to produce a car from surplus parts and they brag about how much money they spent.

In automotive manufacturing and engineering it is normal for a lot of things to be outsourced like those Brembo brakes.

That's how a cellphone company can produce a car.

I am a hit surprised by the seat though. The impact was so small, the car drove on it's own power off the track yet the seat obviously failed.

From a quick google search this piece of excrement doesn’t have regenerative braking? Doesn’t seem possible but:

Explains the brake failure.

Probably because it is not going to gain them any bragging right on a halo car they won't be selling too many.

Power electronics from the battery to the motor would need to be duplicated for regenerative braking at high speed, or maybe even bigger and cost more, or they would just be throttled down to regenerative braking assist instead of regenerative braking if you don't want to fry the battery.

The other thing is, brakes need to be big enough so that it would still work when your battery is full and you need to stop from high speed. I think people who buy these halo cars have enough money to pay for more electricity and hardly drive them enough to need a lot of range, and that's why they are cutting corner here when the disc brakes are already big enough.

If you are buying an EV super car, would you be complaining about a Lambo EV vs Ferrari EV not having regen braking?

I think that was the street version I googled.

IDK what version and where they are selling, but that video is enough evidence to cross the street to another side of the sidewalk if one is parked on your side.
That vehicle is a literal example of: I would not touch it with a 10ft poll.
