I just purchased an X2 AGM 24F battery from Batteries Plus.

Salesperson assured me it was manufactured Nov. '24, and I was in a hurry so I figured it was fine.

Upon further inspection when I got home, I looked up the date code & realized it's actually from June of '24.

My charger says it's at 100%, 12.9V the way I received it without additional charging.

Should I be happy with it, or should I try to return it for a "fresher" one?

I would be annoyed that the date code was wrong. Do they use a letter to represent the month and then 23/24?
The date code wasn't wrong, I just didn't know how to decipher it when I was in the store in a hurry. I trusted the salesperson's answer when I asked, and she told me Nov. of 2024. I looked it up when I got home and found out she was either mistaken or making stuff up.

That is why I purchase batteries from Walmart, Sam’s, Costco. They sell high volume of batteries therefore no old stock and cheaper than other retailers.
I can definitely appreciate that logic. But, none of them sell Odyssey batteries. For this application I want the max reserve capacity possible, and no other 24F on the market even comes close to Odyssey/X2/Northstar in RC.

Good company. I would go see the manager and exchange it. I'd bet they'll do it with no issue.

I'm surprised at this. X2's sell quickly around here and imnventory is always fresh or out of stock.

Frankly I'd not worry a bit!! With the quality of those batteries a few months isn't going to make any difference, not even with a Deka-EastPenn battery IMO. With home brands it's a whole different story.

Appreciate all the replies. Manager at the store told me I could swap it for a fresher one if they happen to get one in on the next shipment.

Otherwise, I'm guessing this one will be just fine.

You got a Thin Plate Pure Lead battery which means it only self discharges at a rate of 0.1 percent each month it sits not being charged. A TPPL battery is extremely resistant to self discharge compared to every other regular AGM and regular flooded battery.

Compare that too a cheaper AGM battery which discharges at 1-3 percent each month it sits not being charged.

And a regular flooded lead acid battery discharges 5-12 percent each month each month it sits around not being charged.
