Dropped the wifes 2014 rdx at the fife WA Acura dealership this morning for the 100k timing belt service. $1890. Last time I had this done at an Acura it was 790. I also need a key for the acura. The key was in backorder at last dealer at 260. This dealer quoted 589. I am blown away at the prices.

I know Acura gets a little bit more, but this place seems crazy high.

In the future I would go to a Honda dealership for these routine type services. Much cheaper at Honda. I’ve known a few people with Acuras that had timing belt jobs done as recently as 5 years ago done at the Honda dealership.

Same thing with key fobs. Honda can program Acura fobs.

See if you can find an independent Acura/Honda specialist in your area.
Did this years ago. Service at a fraction of the dealer cost.

Greg’s Japanese Auto. I have a friend who goes there with her Honda. Good service at a much lesser price than the dealership. There is one in Puyallup and Federal Way.

Doesn’t WA state generally have higher costs of anything compared to others?

Having water pump done this time and maybe it wasn’t done last time?

Maybe I am living in the past. The prices seem well above current market rate. If they aren't, I am wrong and am sorry. If they are exploitive, they will make a money on me once.
Indeed you are. $200-$250/hr for labor. Cost of the Genuine Honda TB, Hydraulic tensioner and W/P have also risen significantly in the last few years.

It over $2500 now for the timing belt, water pump, hyd tensioner, plugs and valve adjustment. I have seen as high as $3K.

The local Ford dealer is $160.00 an hour for labor. The vast majority of shops charge $500.00/axle for brakes. Yes- life is expensive right now. Seems to be a "thing" on here to complain how much car repairs are if you don't/can't DIY.

The timing belt job absolutely is. At a regular Honda dealer, it would be like $1200-1500.

Any busy repair shop can do Honda timing belts jobs so a specialist isn't needed. These cars and those jobs are soooo common nowadays.... I do think with a specialist is that they are more likely to buy/use Honda parts vs Gates, etc, etc though they might use Aisin kits. It's the labor rate at your regular shops where you'll save. I actually asked in the local "car" group on FB about the going rates in my area and it ranged from $75-120 for independents.

You really think those are cheaper? Might want to check again.

The established indy shops (10+ bay ones) are as expensive as the dealership, if not more. IME that is true 90% of the time and is because economies of scale are not in their favor.
Depends on location as well. My dad had his Honda Crosstour TB/pump/tensioner job done about 6 months ago at a local to him indy shop for $900 all said and done.

Not calling you a liar-but I'm guess with inflation "it's not a fraction". I would have a hard time seeing anymore than a 20% savings. So a $2,000.00 timing belt is a $1,600.00 job?

This is funny.... The nearby Joe Morgan Honda (if any of you remember The Big Red Machine, yeah, it's him) has this on their website:

WE SERVICE ACURA VEHICLES!!!
Tired of paying high prices to service your Acura? We now offer the same great service and value our Honda owners enjoy to Acura owners.

I was looking to see if they had any coupons for service on their website but there's none currently. They do mail coupons to us and I actually posted it here some time ago.

Here's a dealer in NJ advertising $749 for the belt/water pump service special.

May have missed a red flag. Was at the dealership when they opened, I was the only customer. I said I was in zero hurry, could take weeks, I didn't care. Yet they already had the car in the bay right after I left. And the service bays were empty. Not a typical scene for most new car dealership service departments.

Typical around the holidays.
