I used Amsoil ASL 5-30 since 1k miles in my 2006 GMC 2500HD 6.0L... A friend keeps telling me to use the SSO 0-30... i have 43k miles as of now ... I've never have done a UOA i just trusted amsoil and changed 10k another 10k then 15k ... i do use the eao filters as well.. just wondering how many of you would change to the SSO 30W over the ASL5-30...i live in florida and all roads are flat.. i pull a trailer sometimes with less then 3k in weight... tons most miles are leaving my house 1 mile then hitting interstate and driving 70mph... i just for life of me cannot figure out how chaging to sso would even benefit me....would any of you switch at the next 15k mark?

well... i did.. engine still runs fine.. ive bought enough trucks and changed at 3k and some broke some didnt... said this time ill run synthetic and change at where severe would be thats 15k... you pay premium for oil you might as well run it like its meant to... to be honest.. i never had a problem with Oil problems in any of my trucks or cars motercycles... Nor have i know anyone to have a oil related issues that trashed their motors...hmmm yea.. ill stick by that.. ive read stories.. but they could be halftruths... oil at 15k didnt look nor appear to be shot... ( it could have been) but ive always done my maintence on my stuff and it seemd ok...

I'm using Amsoil ASM 0w20 for my 1 yr. OCI in my Mazda here in Fl. I've read the SSO is a great oil, but my car specs 20 wt., and seems to run better with the thinner oil.

Running a 15k OCI you should be fine with your present set-up. For the OCIs that most long OCIr's are realistically doing (maxing around 15k) I'm not sure what motivation there is to going SSO. Except SOO is at the top of the top shelf for the long OCI - so perhaps it's a peace of mind thing.

Keep taking ASL to where it's designed to go!

I have the same issue, my taurus has ASL 5w30 5000 miles on it.
last 70,000 on ASL,HDD,TSO.
I have SSO on the shelf to put in, but...
I WOULD, but not just yet, just took a sample to send in...

Well, you could always do a 15k run of the ASL, send it in for a UOA. Then, do a 15k run of SSO, and send it in for a UOA. Whichever looks better, stick with that oil. Obviously use the EaO filters for both.

I have SSO in my Altima right now and I like it a lot. I may go to ATM for the next OCI and do what I recommended you do. I like the SSO, and may be getting my money back in the small MPG increase that I see with the SSO over my OCI. I think I get about 1 MPG better using the SSO over the ATM. In a year, that would equate to a much higher savings with the SSO over the ATM. (I think I just talked myself into continuing the SSO and not putting the ATM in.)

In reality, unless you do a UOA on both, all you are going to get is folks either agreeing or disagreeing with what you should do. None of which are based on science, since both of these oils should be great for 15k. It is not like you are comparing a dino to Amsoil like some have in the past.

Spend the $50 for two UOA's and find out for yourself which works better.

Yea... i guess i could do two UOA'S for 50 bucks.. or i could just spend the 50 towards a new 6qts of asl or sso and a eao32 filter and go another 15 without looking back or caring ,, Just putting my trust in the oil in which has worked good so far... >: )
