Would you vacation in Europe this year?

Without reservation. We have a river cruise trip planned Bucharest to Amsterdam for October. In general everyone we met were welcoming. We stay with group tours offered and do some exploration on our own. We are more comfortable traveling in Europe than other continents (minus Australia). Having lived there overall for nearly seven years, we had no problems despite our readily identifiable USA tags on our car. Nearly everyone was welcoming and helpful. That is particularly true during and after Covid where the tourist industry everywhere suffered.

yes. my only concern is avoiding tourist trap crowds, and double checking for any renovations that shut down some place that you want to visit.

Amalfi Coast and south of France has turned into a big tourist trap over the years.

some places, you're infinitely better visiting in the fall or spring if possible...not August

Don't believe the news. We went through multiple countries and never once had anyone say anything bad to us because we were "American". Act like a jerk and you'll be treated like one. Treat people with respect and it is given. We even were welcomed by some locals at a bar in Brussels after "curfew" if we didn't get too loud. It was hilarious. Older guys drinking beers and listening to Phil Collins. Juplier isn't too bad if you have a chance to try it. Our tab was like $15

My dad and I are looking to take a trip to Italy next year. I've always wanted to visit the Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati and Pagani factory. Then hit Modena and tour a winery and balsamic vinegar facility.
Yes, I am taking a cruise that ends in Naples, where I will head straight to the railroad station for a high speed express to Bologna, and Modena, and flying back to Boston from Milan.

Or would you be concerned about the reception Americans might get due to the disruptions in world trade caused by US policies? Would you stay with canned tours with guides and groups of people or do a self guided type vacation? What you might have done 1year or 10 years ago vacation wise isn't of interest, things are different right now.

It's a tough ask but this is not about politics or parties or individuals, what happened and is happening is real right now. There's some interest in our house to do something we've never done. I'm okay with that but not interested in going where we might not be welcome. i'm mostly a better safe than sorry kind of person.
Just went Portugal on our own visiting daughter studying abroad . No adverse reaction to Americans and very welcoming people as visitors.

I see this no different than when legit foreigners visit the States. If they're respectful and pleasant, it goes a long way to tolerating any small misgivings they may inadvertently create. It's often hard to know all the local customs of every place you visit. Being polite and patient makes most anyone receptive of your presence. It's just good common sense not to make any adverse statements (verbal, clothing print, etc) which would be controversial.

It's been said that the universal language is love. The corollary is that rudeness is universally understood and not well received.

Some of the replies are sad.... We were in Ireland and N Ireland a few months ago and it was a non-issue. Pretty much everyone that we interacted with, after they heard our accents, were friendly, asked which part of the US we were from, and yes, many asked if what they see / hear on the news is "real". We laughed about it.

I have imported and exported to Europe for 48 years.. those i once knew are gone and as someone else stated it isn't the place I remember and to me the trip would be a bummer.... not worth the quid spent or the tears spilled....

Yes I would but just like here avoid talking politics and religion and learn a few words of the language. It goes a long way to say I am trying vs talking louder in english thinking it will help them understand.

My aunt had similar concerns last year, she went to Germany and Scotland last June and then Ireland in September, but didn’t have any issues.

A friend’s daughter went to The Netherlands and Ireland a couple weeks ago and it was ok for her too.
