I got the AAP Quaker State Ultimate Durability oil change special last month X2 for cheaper than I could buy the oil alone at Walmart, so I have 2 Purolator L10111 (if the size matters). I know they sometimes tear. Would you use them for a reasonable OCI, or throw them out? What are the risks? I know that Purolators are good filters when they don't tear, with metal end caps and such. I prefer WIX, but don't know what to do with these. What do you think? I mean they're $3 at Walmart so no big deal to throw them away.

No I wouldn't use them for free if they were anywhere near the large date code range basically anything white can made in the last 6 years or so
Use them. There hasn't been a reported engine problem caused by one yet.
Bring them back and get store credit thats what i would do.. I would not use them thats for sure.
I have 2 of those as well. They'll be used for flushes, 2K-3K oil changes on cheap oil or some other low risk purpose. I think they can last 2K miles.

If they were manufactured mid-2015 to now, they're not likely to tear. Can someone post the date code deciphering again? I have a Puro Classic, date code shows built in August 2015. I'm going to run it for 4K miles & cut it. Honestly, the little bit of dirty oil that goes past the tear can't be that bad. I don't like the idea of it but I don't think it's harming any engines.
Personally I'd run them and wouldn't lose a bit of sleep.
I would post a thread on a popular oil filter site asking if they are ok to use only to incite arguing and bickering among st the members and then do the opposite of what the general consensus is to do with them.

I did donate my unused Purolator oil filters to a local charity. They could use the profits to help build people homes because they are affiliated with habitat for humanity. I already had my oil filter needs met. So they were extra anyhow.
I'd use them. I used to always use them when they were the most readily available and affordable filter for my vehicle. If that were still the case I would still be using them. I'm sure I may have had a couple tear if I were inclined to inspect, but it really doesn't concern me.
