Would you use ARX, or just PP, skip ARX?

I do not see that happening, with the success Trav is having with Kreen I think that may be the next big oil additive for cleaning up dirty and neglected engines, and according to Trav it seems to work faster than MMO.

I also think with the new GF-5 oil's that are coming out there will be less of a need for a product like auto-rx. Pennzoil Ultra and Pennzoil Platinum already claim to clean up sludge and auto manufactures are coming out with engines that are less likely to be SLUDGE PRONE.


Like I said I have no badly sludged engines to try Kreen on, the engines I have tried were badly varnished with lots of deposits. On these engines its been incredibility successful in 1K or much less for sticking lifters etc.
I hope that with the free Kroil offer and low price more BITOG will try this out and post their results good or bad, we need member involvement when trying out products that may be very promising; there are only so many engines I can try it on and actually keep track of.

People had no problem trying ARX for $25+ a bottle this stuff works out to $6.50 for 16oz which is enough for 1K in the oil.
The cool thing about this is we have no owner, distributer, salesman, company rep etc pushing this product, it will have to stand or fall like MMO on its own merits.

I am also curious to see results on an engine that has bad sludge and yes lets get those valve cover pics in the game. I would like to find out how it cleans a neglected fuel system as I have none that are overly dirty.

To answer your quesiton: If you had the funds, ARX is your best option IMO.

If you don't, maybe two changes on a High Mileage oil like Pennzoil or Castrol since they're about 13.50 for 5 quarts at Walmart, then move on to PP and change at 5-7k.

Auto-Rx is MY holy grail to be honest. I've never seen a 160k engine perform as smoothly or as quietly as my 92 Sentra did.

I also did it on an abused Discovery that was always wet with oil underneath due to leaks. It may have just been the oil pan, but after 2 rise/clean cycles, it went completely dry. All discernible leaks disappeared.

I've convinced a few of my friends to use it and they can't believe the awesome results as well.

It's not a waste of money in my opinion. Going from probably having to rebuild within 10k to being able to put on probably another 100k (if not for a worn out suspension and wheel bearings) is worth the price of a bottle.

I have no affiliation to the company who sells it either, just a happy customer sharing his experience.

For my test of ARX as posted in the other thread that I said I would do with pictures I might have a candidate.

My uncle has a Mitsubishi 2.0 litre 4 cylinder with 300K KM's (180K Miles)

The car burns oil and has quite the build up in the engine. I'm trying to talk him into letting me do the ARX run on that vehicle because I think it would be perfect for the test.

And my beef with ARX is the TIME it takes. I agree. 6000 miles? As per THEIR Instructions? Wow. Now, some say it works well, and one poster says they just went a 3000 mile OCI with normal Oil in it and that was that. No "Rinse Phase" or anything.

That I may still try.. 3 oz per quart ARX with SSupertech. Thats STILL $50 or so! (5 quart Sump equals 2 bottles.)The Oil in there now is fairly loaded up (Moly and 16 oz MMO,) and i do want to get rid of it.

Now we have ARX vs KREEN vs MMO vs PP all by itself. Oh wow

A buddy has a business where he rehabs old Jags. E Types and such. He pulls the plugs and squirts MMO into the cylinders and lets it set for a couple of days. He claims it works great.( Been in the business for 30 years) Also I would follow up with Mobil 1 5w30 or 10w30 HM for several OC cycles. I wouldn't add any thing to the oil itself after the MMO soaking.

Pulling the Spark Plugs on this Probe sounds a little advanced. Even if i could get the longish Wires off the Plugs, im sure that would be over my skill set. They are at an Angle, IIRC.

Thats why i was asking about which Cleaning Product to use for some potential Ring Cleaning, if that had anything to do with the Oil Consumption issue. 5 Quarts, so my selection of Product may be ARX, maybe not. (One bottle is 3 oz. short as per their application.)

Piston Soaks are safe for the engine if i took it somewhere, Tig?

If you want a fast clean use Kreen, a slower clean use MMO, or flip a coin, either will get the job done.

Yeah, im too afraid of a Piston Soak though it sounds oh so tempting. Maybe i should be Brave and get a Socket extension and learn where my Plugs are.

Other than that, some people really have had phenomenal experiences with a double dose of ARX, and ill see what my engine does after that.

I cant see myself doing a Piston Soak after ARX. One is within my mechanical curve, the other is not (too much that could go wrong. Id be going

Thanks demarpaint. Not sure what to do with my remaining 16 oz of MMO! Should i put it in there before i begin ARX?

After rinse, im using Syntec 5W-50 with 1 oz. Moly (5 oz.) per OC, as it will be Winter after the ARX Rinse phase.
