Would you try to plug this?

I plugged this and it is not leaking air. Has anyone had any experience with a plug in this location? Would risk be a slow leak or would a blowout occur? Thank you

Did you even poke through to air?

That's a tender part of the tire with lots of flexing and overlapping structural parts, so keep an eye on it.

I've plugged a tire almost as close to the sidewall just about 1/4" more inside and it lasted until I changed them all. Make sure your spare is good.

It is quite possible that it works fine long term. It is also possible that higher speed cornering causes loss of air and you don't notice it right away.

Do you drive fast enough that you can't recover from quick tire pressure loss? Is the vehicle high center of gravity? Do you have a family that depends on you? All these things would factor into my assessment. I am as frugal as anyone but that tire does not look expensive, am I wrong? It is easy for me to spend someone else's money if it makes ME feel safer on the road with someone else. ;)

It will probably be fine. "Probably", but if you take these kinds of risks in too many areas of life, then something will eventually bite you in the arse. Your call.

Or check Craiglist / Facebook Market for a matching one. Looks like a lot of tread still so you could do just the one new.

That far out I would plug it to get me to shop for a new one if I didn't have a spare.

I had a sidewall screw in wife's winter tires back in February. I found a matching 7/32" WinterContact Si on Ebay for $70. Got me through rest of winter and will be good for this winter also. Next year I'll probably need 4.
