Would you rather run a synthetic blend SP oil or SN rated synthetic?

Full synthetic SN. Top tier full synthetic SN plus oils didn't have to do anything to meet SP except wait to be able to apply and test for the licensing (may or may not have needed changes for the 2-6x better than SP minimum requirement claims they like to make). And SN plus oils didn't make any beneficial changes from SN for friction protection which is all I care about. I don't have direct injection engines currently and when I did (BMW N54 and VW FSI both DI turbo) LSPI was never an issue.
In no way do I think a semi synthetic with just enough synthetic to meet SP protects better than a group 3 SN such as Pennzoil platinum. M1, Castrol Edge etc EXCEPT for LSPI which I don't think a calcium count in an oil should be responsible for. I don't believe the semi synthetic SP will protect ANYTHING friction related better including timing chains over a top tier full synthetic SN oil.

Contrary to the licensing requirements of API SP?

So perceived base stock composition is more important than performance requirements?

Either one. I don't really care since both are new & newest API ratings. If one has to meet a specific requirement for warranty that's a different story.

No I think full synthetic SN oils meet every SP spec not related to LSPI or fuel economy AND I think they do it better than a semi synthetic SP. In other words I believe a full synthetic SN performs better than a semi synthetic SP. Before SP Mobil and Pennzoil had said their current full synthetic SN plus oils already met SP and ILSAC-6 "requirements" just couldn't license it until due time. And the "plus" in SN plus didn't address anything but LSPI which has nothing to do with friction protection.

I'd run a good synthetic SN like Mobil 1 EP or even AFE over a store brand SP blend without a doubt.

Where can you find a current full synthetic SN oil?
