There was a house around the block from where I used to live where a woman was murdered by her brother. It was put on the market a little after the event, but I don't think it sold because I never saw anyone live in it for the 8 or 9 years I pass by it.

You would have a hard time getting a Chinese/Vietnamese person to buy/live in a house where a death occurred by unnatural means. We are too superstitious for that.

While I would have no supernatural or mysticism based reasons for not wanting to live in a home where a murder or suicide occurred, if the event was particularly gruesome....I would probably feel a little odd for a time. I'm human. I would be subject, briefly, to a bit of unease. That is until reason prevails.

Look at all the abandoned homes in Detroit? They still have not found all of the missing persons in that city. You can buy a home for next to nothing......as long as you pay the RE taxes.

Lots of skeletons will show up when those homes are ever bought and renovated.

Some people are very superstitious and hire a priest to 'cleanse' the house of bad spirits before they move in.

I'd probably steer clear. I don't believe in hauntings but the more gruesome, the more the loss in value. Which is great if buying but not so good for selling. With so many houses on the market I'd probably go someplace else. While I don't believe in hauntings others do.

Don't get me wrong, lots of people die at home, and it shouldn't bother one to think about who has died there. And even if the house was leveled and something completely different built... the memory stays. "Oh that's where the triple murder occured fifty years ago."

In 2013 a son killed his mother in the basement and then set the house on fire. It has been repaired and remodeled.
My son bought the house three doors down last summer, the burned house will probably go up for sale this spring so it will be interesting to see what happens

A few of us wrote up a history of our neighborhood and found out about a house where a fire took the life of a mom and two kids. We debated about including this, but decided to not 'edit' the history.
