Worthless Blitz oil pans

Wow, Blitz has customer service? I bet that's an interesting job. You probably disturbed her "Twilight" reading.

Yeah, I got a very nice response from her too. And that says a lot since I submitted the email from work (its pretty burned out and frustrated around here... I was sarcastic).

Her response was very nice. They sent me two caps, but they are exactly like the one currently on the pan. I will post a pic later. I havent compared to the old cap to see if it is any stronger looking. At a glance it looks the same. maybe these two caps will get me through a few more seasons.

I'll should have asked Connie to send a pic.

I like that I can drain oil into it and then seal it up. I dont have to drain into a pan then pour back into empty bottles. The overall pan is perfectly durable but the cap is garbage. In order to keep oil from leaking out of the spout you have to tighten to a point where the cap eventually cracks and drips oil all over the floor. I can't even get a year out of one of these things.

I slapped a windshield washer fluid jug cap on mine, and it's holding fine for now. But no, these aren't exactly paragons of quality...

I use the pan to drain the oil and then after the oil change dump it into my 5 gallon gas canister(HD plastic). Once that gets filled its easy to move around. I learned my lesson about keeping oil in the oil drain pans(i had a small 5qt blitz pan that wouldn't cap if its life depended on it(and it did, trashed it). Bought the 15qt Blitz pan and no problems with it, but most I ever put was 11QT's into it.

I used a washer fluid cap on mine as well, but I have to replace them fairly often. They tend to get saturated and leak

Special oil drain pan?

Heck, my dad used to drain the oil into a small car wash pail... then take the pail into the shed and dump it into the 45 gallon drum.

Unfortunately the 45 gallon drum got out of hand and ended up quite full. I'm sure it was a no no for insurance on a private home as well. It has long since been taken care of.

All I can say is don't buy it. It's junk. The pour lip doesn't do what it's suppose to. You'll always spill oil when you pour it out no matter how careful you are.

I ended up getting one similar to this:
http://www.blitzusa.com/products/oil/Oil Drains and Pans/podp6od.htm

works better for pouring oil, but the top opening is small so you have to be careful when draining the oil from the engine

Return #2, and grab http://www.blitzusa.com/products/oil/Oil Drains and Pans/podp15od.htm

#2 caused me so much grief since the pour spout is pretty much level wtih any amount of fluid and the cap regardless of what i used would not seal it properly.

The 15QT one shown here:

http://www.blitzusa.com/products/oil/Oil Drains and Pans/podp15od.htm

is a higher pour point allowing you to store more fluid in without leaks and with 11QT's in it this past weekend did not leak and made changing oil a lot easier with less overspill etc.

That is so true! I have the first one you posted as well. I remember one time I drained the oil on a car that was freshly changed into a brand new Blitz pan (the one you posted first) and I went to pour it back into the engine and even with a funnel, that spout made it pour ALL over the top of the engine and all down the block on every side. What a mess! Worthless pan.

On-topic as well, I like when you go to their website and try to click on their "Principles" page, and it's under construction

Anies,

That 15-qt pan is the one that I (along with the OP) have problems with the cap breaking, along with every one of their other pans. Sure, there's a lot of room in this one before it starts leaking, & it is on level ground. This doesn't apply when hauling it to the parts store for disposal.

That's what I did. No issues for as long as I've used the washer fluid jug cap.
